Allen Dean Hawn, age 74, of Vallonia, slipped peacefully from this world on Wednesday, May 1, 2024, at Franciscan Health, Indianapolis. Mr. Hawn was a life-time member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, Wegan, where he was a church elder and a member of the cemetery board. He took great pride in being dedicated to the caretaking of the Wegan cemetery. Allen was a long-time resident of Vallonia, and he graduated from Brownstown High School in 1967. Allen had a prolific and extensive career of over 40 years in the construction industry, specializing in steel framed structures. Allen or "Big Al", as he was known to most, was a stranger to none and had many passions in his life. He was a life-long member and winner of multiple prizes with The Amateur Trapshooting Association. He was inducted into the Columbus Gun Club Hall of Fame in 2019, after joining the club in the early 80s and started shooting registered targets in 1985. Allen's total number of targets shot was 77,750. Allen was also a life-time member of the National Rifle Association. As an avid outdoorsman, Big Al was always a big supporter of wildlife conservation efforts. He could usually be found out in the woods hunting some form of critter, or hosting his friends at his residence, where he could be found in the garage exchanging stories and a beverage or two. Born on September 18, 1949, in Seymour, Allen was the son of Lloyd Edward and Lois Virginia (Otte) Hawn, both of whom preceded him in death. He married the love of his life, Sherry Babbs, on June 28, 1969, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Wegan, and she survives in Vallonia. Survivors also include one son, Bradley (Krista) Hawn of Spencer; one brother, Michael (Vickie) Hawn of Brownstown; four grandchildren: Ryan Allen Hawn, Rebecca Hawn, Riley Hawn, and Ridge (Natalie) Hawn; and three great-grandchildren: Regean Williams, Olivia Thomison, and Shiloh Dean Jonas.
