Billy Clay Colwell

Billy Clay Colwell, age 71, of Brownstown, passed away on Friday, August 18, 2023, at his home surrounded by his loving family and his faithful companion, Thor.
Mr. Colwell retired from Morgan Packing Company after more than ten years of service. He cherished spending time with his grandkids, fishing, playing his guitar, and watching University of Kentucky men's basketball games.
Born on August 6, 1952, in Neon, Kentucky, Billy was the son of Elonzo and Sally Colwell, both of whom preceded him in death. On March 5, 1977, in Crothersville, he married Deborah Pruett, and she survives in Brownstown.
Survivors also include one daughter, Sondra (Stephen) Short of Brownstown; one sister, Bonnie Hall of Knoxville, Tennessee; three grandchildren: Mason Short, Brody Short, and Holdan Short, all of Brownstown; one sister-in-law, Earleen Hall; and several nieces and nephews.
Billy was also preceded in death by two sisters: Clarisse Howard and Janice S. Proffitt; and two brothers: Darvis (Sandy) Colwell and Dennis Hall.
Friends may call from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, August 22, 2023, at Spurgeon Funeral Home, Inc., Brownstown.
Memorials may be given to Down Syndrome Indiana.
