Blanche Arthur

Blanche Arthur, age 93, of Brownstown, passed away at 6:50 p.m. Monday, Aug. 12, 2013, at Schneck Medical Center, Seymour. Blanche was a registered nurse and retired from Hoosier Christian Village in 1983. She was a 1937 graduate of Houston High School and attended Butler University and graduated from Methodist Hospital School of Nursing. Born Jan. 10, 1920, in Jackson County, she was the daughter of Bruce and Stella Scott Fleetwood, both of whom preceded her in death. On Nov. 21, 1943, she married Grover Arthur, who preceded her in death on March 3, 1998.Survivors include two daughters, Fleeta Kay Arthur and Brenda (John J.) McKain, both of Brownstown. She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Bobby Fleetwood, Raymond Fleetwood and Dr. Charles Fleetwood; and one sister, Fern Whittredge. A funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday at Spurgeon Funeral Home Inc., Brownstown, with Eric Kennedy officiating. Burial will take place at Houston Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today and from 10 a.m. until time of service Thursday at the funeral home. Memorials may be given to Lawrence County Cancer Patient Services or Maude Welch Nurses School through Jackson County Bank.
