Charles Edward Conrad, Sr., age 82, of Brownstown, Indiana, passed away on Wednesday, December 14, 2016 at Hoosier Christian Village, Brownstown. Mr. Conrad was a member of the Community Church of Brownstown. He was a Veteran of the United States Army, serving three years active and seven years in the United States Army Reserve. Mr. Conrad retired as an Indiana State Police Officer after 30 years of service. He was a member of the Washington Lodge No. 13 F & AM of Brownstown and American Legion Post 89 of Seymour. Born on August 22, 1934, in Louisville, Kentucky, he was the son of Charlie and Mildred Edwards Conrad, both of whom preceded him in death. On September 23, 1955, he married Ethel Burnett and she survives in Brownstown. Survivors also include three sons: Chuck Conrad of Vallonia, Donald (Dotti) Conrad of Brownstown, and Matthew Conrad of Terre Haute; four grandchildren: Leslie (William) Holder, Rachel (DJ) Rouse, Jade Conrad and Caitlin Conrad; and three great grandchildren: Liam Holder, Charlotte Holder and Henry Rouse. Also surviving are Stan, Pam, Katie, Adam and Faith Hillenbrand, who Ethel and Charles have always considered their grandchildren. Besides his parents, he was also preceded in death by one son, Michael Conrad, and one brother, Walter Conrad. Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, December 19, 2016 at Spurgeon Funeral Home, Inc., Brownstown, with Terry Fordice officiating. Friends may call from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, December 18, 2016 at Spurgeon Funeral Home, Inc., Brownstown, and from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service on Monday at the funeral home. Interment will take place at Fairview Cemetery, Brownstown. A masonic service will be held at 4:30 p.m. on Sunday, December 18, 2016 at Spurgeon Funeral Home, Inc. by Washington Lodge No. 13 F & AM.
