Doris Eileen Owens, age 89, of Brownstown, passed away on Friday, May 11, 2018, at Schneck Medical Center, Seymour, surrounded by her family.
Mrs. Owens was a member of Brownstown Christian Church, where she was a member of the church choir, and served as assistant treasurer for numerous years. Doris retired on March 1, 1989, from Indiana Telephone Corporation/Contel after 42 years of loyal and dedicated service. She graduated in 1947 from Brownstown High School and remained close friends with many of her classmates. Born on February 18, 1929, in Jackson County, Indiana, she was the daughter of William E. and Fay Artis Pilman, both of whom preceded her in death. On December 23, 1950, she married Clair Edward Owens and he preceded her in death on December 4, 2007.
Survivors include two daughters: Teresa (Barry) Cutter of Brownstown, and Cathy (Don) Roberts of Brownstown; four sisters: Jane (Richard) Tormoehlen of Seymour, Carol Ann (Robert) Pope of Brownstown, Janet (Robert) Brown of Brownstown, and Joy (Tom) Dawson of Bardstown, Kentucky; seven grandchildren: Kyle (Julie) Warren of Brownstown, Hope Warren and fiancé Steve Cissna of Salem, Mackenzie (Dan) Wenger of Texas, Kwin (Rebekah) Cutter of Brownstown, Alicia (Kyle) McCrary of Brownstown, Amanda (Jaret) Terrell of Brownstown, and Kara (Roxanne) Koopman of Palmyra; 15 great grandchildren: Isaiah Sitterding, Matthew Sitterding, Emerson Warren, Marley Warren, Landry Warren, Abram McCrary, Easton McCrary, Laura Terrell, Vance Terrell, Dru Terrell, Taylor Treadway, Karsen Cutter, Andrew Cissna, Nicholas Cissna and Cole Cissna; and several nieces and nephews.
Doris was also preceded in death by one sister, Wilma Morgan, and brother-in-law, Robert Morgan.
Funeral services for Doris E. Owens will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 15, 2018, at Brownstown Christian Church with Pastor Mitchell McIntyre officiating. Friends may call from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Monday, May 14, 2018, at Spurgeon Funeral Home, Inc. and from 12:00 noon until the time of the service on Tuesday at Brownstown Christian Church.
Interment will be at Fairview Cemetery, Brownstown.
