Harriet E. Oates, age 84, formerly of Brownstown, passed away at 7:30 a.m. Tuesday, May 6, 2014, at Chicagoland Christian Village, Crown Point. Harriet was a member of Brownstown Christian Church. She was a 1948 graduate of Norton High School and a member of the Eastern Star Lodge in Akron, Ohio. Born Feb. 2, 1930, in Akron, Ohio, she was the daughter of Jasper and Ethel Hinton Himebaugh, both of whom preceded her in death. On Feb. 19, 1949, in Akron, Ohio, she married William E. Oates, who preceded her in death on April 8, 2004.Survivors include one son, William R. (Katy) Oates, Kouts; one daughter, Diana Lynn (Mike) Camozzi, Grand Rapids, Michigan; four grandchildren, Will (Amanda) Oates, Beth (Jeremy) Lippelt, Matt Camozzi and Jeff Camozzi; and five great-grandchildren, Alex Lippelt, Chris Lippelt, Liam Oates, Maggie Oates and Ella Camozzi. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and one sister, Arlene. The family has chosen cremation. Inurnment will take place at Veterans National Cemetery in Madison, at a later date. Memorials may be given to auxiliaries of Hoosier Christian Village or Chicagoland Christian Village. Arrangements were handled by Spurgeon Funeral Home Inc. in Brownstown.
