John R. Persinger, age 82, of Brownstown, passed away at 8:48 p.m. Friday, Dec. 20, 2013, at The Waters, Scottsburg. John was of the Methodist faith. He was employed with Cummins Engine Co., a heavy equipment mechanic on the Glen Canyon Dam project and also employed with Machinery Movers of Columbus. He was a member of Washington Lodge 13, F&AM, Brownstown. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and reading. Born on June 21, 1931, in Jackson County, he was the son of John and Margaret Boling Persinger, both of whom preceded him in death. On May 19, 1950, in Bedford, he married Florence Fultz, who survives.Other survivors include a son, Van (Barbara) Persinger of Lancaster, Ky.; a daughter, Rebecca Persinger of Indianapolis; a brother, Joe (Judy) Persinger of Brownstown; three sisters, Jane Tabor of Freetown, Carol (Jesse) Boyer of Seymour and Diana (Don) McKinney of Windsor, N.C.; a sister-in-law, Emilie Persinger of Brownstown; three grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Deborah Manion; a brother, Robert Persinger; and a grandson, Otis Joe Povalari. A funeral service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Friday at Spurgeon Funeral Home, Brownstown, with the Rev. Doug Sanders, officiating. Burial will take place at Fairview Cemetery, Brownstown. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until time of service Friday at the funeral home. A masonic service will be conducted by the Washington Lodge 13, F&AM of Brownstown at 11 a.m. Friday at the funeral home. Memorials may be given to Washington Lodge 13, F&AM.
