Joyce Hackman, age 86, of Brownstown, passed away peacefully on Sunday evening, March 23, 2025, at her home surrounded by her loving family. Joyce's strong faith was a guiding presence throughout her life. She was baptized in Christ and confirmed in faith at Emanuel Lutheran Church, Dudleytown. Together with her husband, Earl, she later became an active member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Seymour. Joyce had a devoted faith that inspired her to share the message of Jesus with others. Joyce was a homemaker, and she worked alongside her husband on their Holstein dairy farm for over 30 years. She was also a loving caregiver, always showing kindness and compassion, as she cared so much for her family and friends. Sending cards was one way she expressed her compassion and thoughtfulness toward others. She was a member of Sauers Extension Homemakers Club, Tuesday morning friends' coffee club, and chairman of the Washington Township section of the Jackson County Fair Antique Building. Joyce was deeply loved by her family, and she cherished every moment spent with them. Born on September 29, 1938, in Seymour, Joyce was the daughter of Arthur and Esther (Nehrt) Goecker, both of whom preceded her in death. On January 20, 1957, at Emanuel Lutheran Church, Dudleytown, she married Earl Hackman, and he preceded her in death on April 29, 2007. Survivors include two daughters: Tracy (Keith) Stam of Brownstown, and Karla (Brian) Thompson of Seymour; one daughter-in-law, Cher Hackman of Brownstown; seven grandchildren: Heidi Lawrence, Heather (Carlos) Florido, Eric (Jaylyn) Stam, Katie (Brian) Irk, Janelle (Jacob) Griffin, Ben (Kayla) Thompson, and Ethan Hackman; 15 great-grandchildren; one sister, Eileen Pottschmidt of Brownstown; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Joyce was also preceded in death by four sons: Troy Douglas Hackman, Travis Earl Hackman, Kyle A. Louis Hackman, and Blake Matthew Hackman; brother and sister-in-law, Norman and Marilyn Goecker; and brother-in-law, Fred Pottschmidt. Funeral services for Joyce Hackman will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, March 27, 2025, at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Seymour, with Pastor Ralph Blomenberg, Pastor Philip Bloch, Pastor Jimmy Rodriguez, and Pastor Will Fredstrom officiating. Friends may call from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 26, 2025, at Spurgeon Funeral Home, Inc., Brownstown, and from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, March 27, 2025, at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Seymour. Interment will follow at St. John's Lutheran Church, Sauers Cemetery. Memorials may be given to Immanuel Lutheran Church Music Department, St. John's Lutheran Church, Sauers Cemetery Fund, Don & Dana Myers Cancer Center, or Donor's choice.
