Larry Allen Morris, age 77, of Brownstown, passed away on Monday, July 11, 2022, at his home surrounded by his loving family.
Mr. Morris was a member of Driftwood Christian Church, Vallonia.
Larry loved the Lord, and he served in the Christian ministry since 1967 and ministered to several Christian churches since moving to Jackson County in 1971. He received degrees from Cincinnati Christian Seminary, including a Bachelor of Science Degree in Christian Education, a Bachelor of Science Degree in Arts (Bible), and Master of Religious Education.
Mr. Morris worked at the Jackson County Banner for 25 years as Sports Editor before becoming Managing Editor. To local high school students, Larry was known as "The Banner Man". His journalistic and photographic skills earned him numerous awards, and he had several articles in The Christian Standard.
Born on August 13, 1944, in Erwin, Tennessee, he was the son of Warren Jackson "Jack" and Sarah Elizabeth Blevins Morris, both of whom preceded him in death. On June 12, 1970, at New Burlington Church of Christ, he married Barbara Lee Fisher, and she survives in Brownstown.
Survivors also include two sons: David (Sally) Morris of Chicago, and Karl Morris of Brownstown; one sister, Kathy Fletcher of Virginia; and one granddaughter, Heidi Morris.
Larry was also preceded in death by a sister, Betty Orfield.
Funeral services for Larry Allen Morris will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, July 15, 2022, at Driftwood Christian Church, Vallonia, with Pastor Daniel Ison and Pastor Steve Gommel officiating. Friends may call from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 14, 2022, at Spurgeon Funeral Home, Inc., Brownstown, and from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, July 15, 2022, at Driftwood Christian Church.
Interment will be at Fairview Cemetery, Brownstown.
Memorials may be given to Driftwood Christian Church Mission Team.
