Lema Joyce Sterling, age 89, of Seymour, passed away on Saturday, January 20, 2024, at Schneck Medical Center, Seymour, surrounded by her loving family. Joyce was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, Sauers. She worked as a retail cashier, and she was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles. Joyce loved and adored her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She enjoyed reading, doing word puzzles, cooking, and baking, and she was famous for her chocolate and peanut butter fudge. Born on January 15, 1935, in Somerset, Kentucky, Joyce was the daughter of Willie and Beulah (Hawk) Inabnitt, both of whom preceded her in death. Survivors include one son, Terry (Lola) Lynch of Seymour; one daughter, Robin (Dwight) Wischmeier of Seymour; one daughter-in-law, Patty Woodward; one sister, Fern Ratliff of Greenwood; seven grandchildren: Joshua Lynch, Stephanie Lynch, Adam Wischmeier, Amber Wischmeier, Alex (Megan) Wischmeier, Corey (Hillary) Lynch, and Chad (Breanna) Lynch; and eight great-grandchildren: Baylee Lynch, Carter Hall, Waylon Wischmeier, Hattie Wischmeier, Cameron Lynch, Carson Lynch, Nevan Lynch, and Jade Lynch. Joyce was also preceded in death by two sons: Larry Lynch and Garry Lynch; brother, Glen Inabnitt; brother and sister-in-law, Lawrence and Norma Jean Inabnitt; and brother-in-law, Richard Ratliff. Funeral services for Lema Joyce Sterling will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. on Tuesday, January 23, 2024, at St. John's Lutheran Church, Sauers, with Pastor Craig Muhlbach officiating. Friends may call from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Monday, January 22, 2024, at Spurgeon Funeral Home, Inc., Brownstown, and from 1:30 p.m. until the time of the service at 2:30 p.m. on Tuesday, January 23, 2024, at St. John's Lutheran Church, Sauers. Interment will be at St. John's Lutheran Church Sauers, Cemetery. Memorials may be given to St. John's Lutheran School, Sauers, or American Heart Association.
