Mary V. (McElfresh) Otte, age 89, of Brownstown, passed away peacefully early Monday morning, August 12, 2024, at her home.
Mary had a strong faith and was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, Wegan. She also belonged to the Ladies Aid at the church and served in various offices through the years.
Mrs. Otte was employed as a secretary and bookkeeper at Medora Brick Co. for 25 years, and she was also a homemaker.
Mary was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She loved her family dearly, and she was loved beyond measure by them. She cherished spending time with her family, and she always loved it when they came to see and visit her. She was her family's biggest supporter.
To know Mary was to love her. At all times, she displayed a beautiful smile and continuously had a positive outlook on life. She was a good friend to many, as she never met a stranger, and she was always ready and willing to help anyone in any way. Family and friends were very important to Mary.
Born on July 29, 1935, in Jackson County, Mary was the daughter of William J. and Marie Loper McElfresh, both of whom preceded her in death. On November 28, 1954, at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Wegan, she married Lloyd Dean Otte, and he survives in Brownstown.
Survivors also include one son, Gregory S. (Karen) Otte of Brownstown; daughter-in-law, Deborah (David) Hamilton of Brownstown; four grandchildren: Hillary (Dustin) Toppe, Travis (Nicole) Otte, Jamie Gray, and Amanda (Chris) Cooper; and 12 great-grandchildren: Harley Toppe, Hunter Toppe, Halle Toppe, Brayden Otte, Knox Otte, Clayton Branaman, Zoie Gray, Devin Gray, Lincoln Gray, Mia Cooper, Cohen Cooper, and Haidyn Cooper.
Besides her parents, Mary was also preceded in death by one son, Kevin D. Otte; and three sisters: Wilma Taylor, Dorothy Spurgeon, and Edna Baker.
Funeral services for Mary V. (McElfresh) Otte will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, August 15, 2024, at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Wegan, with Pastor Joel Meyer officiating. Friends may call from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, August 14, 2024, at Spurgeon Funeral Home, Inc., Brownstown, and from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, August 15, 2024, at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Wegan.
Interment will follow at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Wegan Cemetery.
Memorials may be given to St. Paul Lutheran Church, Wegan, Parsonage Fund, the Ladies Aid at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Wegan, or Donor's Choice.
