Reverend Robert "Bob" Lee Riggs, age 92, of Brownstown, passed away on Friday, February 16, 2024, at Schneck Medical Center, Seymour, following a period of declining health. Reverend Riggs was a graduate of Anderson High School, Anderson University, and United Theological Seminary. Bob was a retired minister with the United Methodist Church. He also worked for Watson's Garden Gate Greenhouse, while he lived in Indianapolis. He had two green thumbs, as he loved plants and gardening. Born on November 13, 1931, in Madison County, Indiana, Bob was the son of Chester Willard and Florence Alma Beatty Riggs, both of whom preceded him in death. On April 5, 1953, he married Martha Kay Armstrong, and she preceded him in death on February 20, 2003. On June 5, 2020, he married Bryson Lee "Bud" Hatfield, who survives in Brownstown. Survivors also include three daughters: Teresa "Terri" Lynn (Tom) Wright, Deborah "Debbie" Ann (Terry) Roll, and Maribeth Le (Kendale) Warner all of Brownstown; seven devoted grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; and close friends: Leroy and Velma Crees, and Bill and Betty Baute. Reverend Riggs was also preceded in death by a daughter, Lisa Denise Riggs; and three brothers: Edwin "Eddie" Lee Riggs, Chester "Chet" Willard Riggs, and Gene Eldon Riggs. Funeral services for Reverend Robert "Bob" Lee Riggs will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, February 21, 2024, at Brownstown United Methodist Church with Reverend Jack Shake officiating. Friends may call from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the service at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, February 21, 2024, at Brownstown United Methodist Church. Interment will take place at Fairview Cemetery, Brownstown. Memorials may be given to Brownstown United Methodist Church.
