Robert "Bob" Ivan Pogue

Robert "Bob" Ivan Pogue, age 91, of Brownstown, passed away on Thursday, December 28, 2023, at Hoosier Christian Village, where he had been a resident for the past five years. Some of his favorite things during his residency were the euchre club and sitting out in the sun on warm days. Bob was a member of Brownstown Christian Church since 1965, where he served as a deacon and elder. He also served as chairman of the Missions ministry for several years. Mr. Pogue served his country as a member of the United States Army. He worked for many years with the A & P grocery store in Shelbyville and Seymour, but he was known best in recent years as the Prudential Insurance agent in the Brownstown community for 27 years. Bob was a member of the Brownstown Exchange Club and a member of the Masonic Lodge. Bob loved traveling with his wife, Sue, including fishing trips to Canada. He especially enjoyed traveling down the Columbia River and his trip to Alaska. Bob's real passion in retirement was fishing. Born on October 9, 1932, in Hayden, Bob was the son of Herbert Theodore and Cora A. (Campbell) Pogue, both of whom preceded him in death. On April 11, 1953, he married Sue Ann Summers, and she preceded him in death in November of 2004. Survivors include one son, Doug (Shawn) Pogue of Seymour; two daughters: Robin Kim Faust of Dayton, Ohio, and Jana Pogue of Greenwood; one sister, Reva (Jim) Nichols of Freetown; two brothers: Larry (Barbara) Pogue of Greenwood, and Jim Pogue of Brownstown; eight grandchildren; Kristin (Nathan) Collier, Kelli (Jon) Maynard, Courtney (Kate) Pogue, Laura (Mike) O'Hara, Andrew Faust, Lexie Faust, Caitie Faust, and Whitney Faust; and four great-grandchildren: Grayson Maynard, Eli Pogue, Michael O'Hara, and Magnolia Sue O'Hara. Mr. Pogue was also preceded in death by his step-mother, Ilene Pogue; and one brother, Allen Pogue. Funeral services for Robert "Bob" Ivan Pogue will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 2, 2024, at Spurgeon Funeral Home, Inc., Brownstown, with Pastor Mike Bell officiating. Friends may call from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 2, 2024, at Spurgeon Funeral Home, Inc. Interment will be at Fairview Cemetery, Brownstown. Military honors will be presented by Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1925, American Legion Post 89, Disabled American Veterans 47, and Vietnam Vets 7.
