Donald E. Deck, age 81, of Brownstown, passed away on Monday, February 14, 2022, at Schneck Medical Center, Seymour, surrounded by his loving family. Reverend Deck was the pastor of churches in Iowa, Arkansas, and Indiana retiring after sixty years of ministry. He preached God’s Word in more than 50 countries during his lifetime. Donald was constantly learning and strengthening his faith. He attended the University of Missouri-Rolla, the Apostolic Bible Institute, the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, and Indiana University in Bloomington. Pastor Deck served as International Youth President of the United Pentecostal Church and funded a program that raised millions for International Missions. Above all, he cherished his relationship with the Lord and his family. Donald loved traveling all over the United States and internationally with his wife and family. He was an accomplished pianist and during his youth he played and traveled with the Kings Men Quartet and recorded several albums. He enjoyed playing racquetball, following his grandkids’ sports, and he was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan. Born on February 27, 1940, in Broseley, Missouri, he was the son of Wiley and Lula Lane Deck, both of whom preceded him in death. On August 3, 1958, in St. Louis, Missouri, he married Norma Jean Simmons and she survives in Brownstown. Survivors also include one son, Gregg (Kelly) Deck of Brownstown; two daughters: Sharon (Terry) Smith of West Orange, New Jersey, and Jane (Jim) Zimmermann of St. Louis, Missouri; three brothers: Nathaniel (Myrtle) Deck, Larry Deck, and Gary (Betty) Deck; one sister, Ruby Steed; grandchildren: Paige (Brian) Wheeler, Jordan (Janelle) Deck, Sumerr Smith, Caleb Smith, Christian (Amanda) Smith, Rachel (Dave) Felice, Natalie (Miles) Kitchin, and Lauren (Geoff) Smart, Sarah (Mike) Spakowski, Carrie McGowan, and Mark Zimmermann; and great-grandchildren: Pierson Wheeler, Finley Wheeler, Willow Deck, Jones Deck, Dominic Felice, Renata Felice, Luca Felice, Giuliana Felice, Blake Kitchin, Hunter Kitchin, Jane Lauchli, Avia Lauchli, Caroline Lauchli, Mary Smart, Olivia Smart, William Smart, Kendall Smart, Andrew Smart, and Emma Smart. Besides his parents, Pastor Deck was also preceded in death by his siblings: John Hill, Cloid Deck, Dorothy Vickers, Gerry Hammer, Lee Hill, Jr., Freda Lenggerhager, and Willadeane Hill. Funeral services for Donald E. Deck will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 19, 2022, at Spurgeon Funeral Home, Inc., Brownstown, with Pastor Terry A. Smith officiating. Friends may call from 10:30 a.m. until the time of the service at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 19, at Spurgeon Funeral Home, Inc., Brownstown. Interment will be at Fairview Cemetery, Brownstown.
