Iris Dianne Gilliam

February 14, 1944 - January 31, 2021

Iris Dianne Gilliam, age 76, of Freetown, passed away on Sunday, January 31, 2021, at her home surrounded by her loving family. Mrs. Gilliam was a life-time member of Freetown Church of Christ. Iris worked at Cummins Engine Co. for more than 25 years. She was a team leader, worked in the Human Resources department, and she also worked on the fuel injection line. Iris loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, gardening, and going to garage sales and auctions. She also loved animals, especially her peacock, Prince. Born on February 14, 1944, in Freetown, she was the daughter of Charles William and Hazel Irene Scott Anderson, both of whom preceded her in death. On July 27, 1979, in Freetown, she married Byron Gene Gilliam and he survives in Freetown. Survivors also include one son, Douglas Scott Pearson of Columbus; two daughters: Tammy (Georgia) Pearson of Freetown, and Tanya McDonald of Seymour; one brother, Terry Anderson of Freetown; three sisters: Donna (Russell) Fritz of Freetown, Marilyn Ault of Seymour, and Elaine (J.D.) Francis of Freetown; grandchildren: Chasity Muns, Whitnea Miller, Haley (Ryan) Pennington, April Rose, William McDonald, Nicole (William) Kell, Ronny Pearson, Ezra Engle, Courtney Rose, Ronald Pearson, Isiaah Engle, and Jayron Pearson; great-grandchildren: Jayli Muns, Jasmine Muns, Jocelyn Muns; Nash Pennington, Raeli Pennington, Braelin Kell, and Baby Engelking; sister-in-law, Marilyn Anderson; and several nieces and nephews. She was also preceded in death by one son, Ronald “Fran” Pearson; one granddaughter, Destiny Alderson; two brothers: Charles Anderson and Johnny Anderson; sisters-in-law: Judith Anderson and Nyla Anderson; and brother-in-law, Lyle Ault. Funeral services for Iris Dianne Gilliam will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, February 3, 2021, at Freetown Church of Christ with Russell Fritz officiating. Friends may call from 12:00 noon until the time of the service at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday at Freetown Church of Christ. Due to the Covid 19 Pandemic, Spurgeon Funeral Home, Inc. will be practicing social distancing according to CDC guidelines. Masks are required when entering the church.
