September 27, 1945 - January 26, 2013
Lawrence L. "Jack" Montgomery, age 67, Brownstown, entered into eternity Saturday, January 26, 2013, surrounded by his loving family at his home. Born September 27, 1945, in Crothersville, he was the son of William and Margaret Jewell Chandler Montgomery, both of whom preceded him in death. Jack was the youngest of seven siblings. Jack graduated from Crothersville High School in 1963. He then earned degrees in math and business from Indiana University Bloomington in 1968. He moved to Brownstown to begin a career in banking at The Peoples Bank in 1970. In 1980, he took a 10-year sabbatical from banking and became district sales manager at Kieffer Paper Mills, human resource manager at Sparton Electronics and Abloy Division of Wartsila Inc. in Helsinki, Finland. In 1989, Jack returned to The Peoples Bank, where he later became senior vice president before retiring in December 2010. On February 20, 1993, he married his beloved wife, Mary Ann Callis, who survives. Others survivors include his children, a daughter, Renee Deann (Shane) Gallion, Medora, and a son, Ryan Adam Montgomery, Medora; two stepdaughters, Jenny (Fransico "Paco") Hamm, Redondo Beach, Calif., and Rebecca (Joel) Aelick, Charlotte, N.C.; grandchildren, Lance Gallion, Ellis Gallion, Elisa Gallion, Caylen Fortino and Ethan Montgomery; stepgrandchildren, Carman Hamm, Nicolas Hamm, Joshua Aelick and Justin Aelick; and two brothers, John Montgomery Jr. and Bill Montgomery. In addition to both of his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Robert Joe Montgomery, Donnie Montgomery and Ray Montgomery; and one sister, Crystal Hadden. As Jack was growing up on a farm, his father instilled in him that we were not here a long time, and while we are here, we should contribute. Therefore, Jack devoted much of his life to serving the community and affecting those whom he encountered. He was an active member in the Brownstown Presbyterian Church; served the past 25 years as a member of the Brownstown Central Community Schools Corp. board of trustees, the past 20 as president; and served on the Indiana School Board Association as a director and president. Jack was secretary and treasurer of the Jackson County Fair Association and was recently elected its president. He was on the Brownstown Health Center Board of Directors and was an officer for the Greater Crothersville Heritage Foundation. Jack was a board member of the Schneck Medical Center Foundation, president of the Jackson County Visitor Center and a previous member of the Jackson County Red Cross. His philanthropic memberships included the Brownstown Exchange Club and Elks Lodge 462 in Seymour. During his life, Jack received numerous accolades and recognition for his extensive community service involvement. In 2010, Jack was inducted into the Brownstown Central High School Athletics Hall of Fame for his years of being the "Voice of the Braves" and for being an avid supporter of all student activities in Brownstown Central Schools.
