Omer G. Rieckers, age 90, Brownstown, passed away at 3:48 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 20, 2013, at his residence surrounded by his family. Omer was a lifelong member of St. John's Lutheran Church, Sauers. He served his country as a technical sergeant from 1944 to 1946 in World War II. He was a construction worker, salesman and farmer. He enjoyed pulling horses, as well as announcing for horse pulls, for 64 years. He was an avid hunter. He was a former member of the Jackson County Fair Board and an active member of Crothersville Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1083 and Brownstown American Legion. Born Feb. 25, 1922, in Jackson County, he was the son of Clarence and Rose (Krumme) Rieckers, both of whom preceded her in death. He married Wilma Auffenberg, who preceded him in death. He then married Mary English, who preceded him in death. He then married Nora Brown, who survives in Brownstown. Survivors include two sons, Randall (Deloris) Rieckers, Brownstown, and Roger (Tammy) Rieckers, Georgetown; four daughters, Diane (Phil) Darlage, Carolyn (Glenn) Benter, Judy (Don Jr.) Myers, all of Seymour, and Kay (Randy) Ude, Brownstown; three stepsons, Kendall Brown, Atoka, Tenn., Grant (Sandy) Brown, Versailles, and William English, Virginia; five stepdaughters, Deidre Tranter, Cherokee, N.C., Jodi Brown, Osgood, Vickie Loyo and Kathy Combs, both of Seymour, and Terri Montgomery, Franklin; two sisters, Dorothy Hischke, Columbus, and Doloris (Norman) Eggersman, Seymour; a sister-in-law, Beulah Pottschmidt, Seymour; 10 grandchildren; several step-grandchildren and several step-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Earl Rieckers; and a brother-in-law, John Hischke. Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Wednesday at St. John's Lutheran Church, Sauers, with Pastor Craig Muhlbach officiating. Burial will take place at the church cemetery. Military honors will be presented by Crothersville Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1083. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Spurgeon Funeral Home Inc., Brownstown, and from noon until the time of service Wednesday at the church. Memorials may be given to St. John's Lutheran Church, Sauers, or Schneck Medical Center Hospice in Seymour.
