Phillip Gordon Hanner, age 77, of Norman, passed away on Tuesday, March 2, 2021, at his residence surrounded by his loving family. Mr. Hanner loved the Lord and was a life-time member of Kurtz Church of the Nazarene. Phil served as a church board member and trustee, a song leader, and a Sunday school teacher. He also served as Missions President. Phil loved spending time with his family and friends, and enjoyed sharing his garden with them. He was a prankster and always enjoyed life to the fullest. Mr. Hanner worked as a foreman at Cummins Engine Co., but his love was farming. Phil was known for his maple syrup, which started as a science project for his daughter and later developed into “Hanner Sugar Bush”, which was their annual family tradition. Phil always loved hosting school field trips to his farm. Born on December 22, 1943, Phil was the son of Eldon Morris and Iris Glodine Lutes Hanner, both of whom preceded him in death. On August 25, 1962, at Kurtz Church of the Nazarene, he married Mary Viola Sidle and she preceded him in death on August 5, 2004. Survivors include one son, Douglas Eldon (Trina) Hanner of Riverton, Wyoming; two daughters: Tamla Suzanne (Larry) Leckrone of Norman, and Shona Deanne (Floyd) Fisher of Norman; one brother, Kenneth (Barbara) Hanner of North Carolina; one sister, Marilyn (James) Wilson of Norman; six grandchildren: Zachary Fisher, Zebulon (Hillary) Fisher, Zane Fisher, Melynda (Chris) Ziemann, Abilene (Scotty) McCory, and Emmitt (Amanda) Hanner; four great-grandchildren: Owen Fisher, Bailee Fisher, Maddyx Ziemann, and Talula Ziemann; and three sisters-in-law: Emma Hanner, Esther Hanner, and Rita Hanner. Mr. Hanner was also preceded in death by four brothers: Stephen Hanner, Everett Hanner, Dennis Hanner, and Loy Hanner; and sister-in-law, Barbara Hanner. Funeral services for Phillip Gordon Hanner will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 4, 2021, at Kurtz Church of the Nazarene with Rev. Floyd Fisher, Rev. Doug Hanner, and Rev. Larry Leckrone officiating. Friends may call from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday at Kurtz Church of the Nazarene. Due to the Covid 19 Pandemic, Spurgeon Funeral Home, Inc. will be practicing social distancing according to CDC guidelines. Masks are required when entering the church. Interment will be at Kurtz Cemetery. Memorials may be given to Kurtz Church of the Nazarene or Heart to Heart Hospice of Bloomington.
