Alvin Morris Otte, age 84, of Seymour, passed away peacefully on Monday, December 8, 2025, at his home.
Mr. Otte was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, Borchers, and he also attended Whites Chapel.
Alvin graduated from Cortland High School in 1959. After graduation, he worked at Rose Acre Farms and later became a mechanic for Cummins Engine Co. He worked at Cummins for 32 years, and he also owned and operated Otte Pump Wells and Water Lines while working at Cummins. He also enjoyed farming, taking great pride in his cattle, fruit trees, and tractor drives. He also helped in the construction of the shelter house at Borchers.
Beyond his professional pursuits, Alvin proudly served in the Indiana National Guard. Alvin was a member of the Jackson County Pork Producers and Jackson County Cattlemen's Association.
Born on September 23, 1941, on the family farm, Alvin was the son of Harold and Lona (Hehman) Otte, both of whom preceded him in death. He was previously married to Patricia Otte on August 11, 1963.
Survivors include one son, Jeffrey Otte (fiancé Traci Ashley) of North Vernon; two daughters: Dr. Susan (Michael) Waltz of Nashville, and Lisa (Randy) Cosby of North Vernon; two brothers: Merrill Otte, and Dennis (Vickie) Otte; one sister, Marlis (Bill) Kidd; eight grandchildren: Tiffany Otte, Katelyn (Parker) Purdue, Danielle (Chaz) Hill, Ryan Cosby, Paige (Koop) Bush, Parker Waltz, Mark (Teresa) Waltz, and Katie (Josh) Stidham; great-grandchildren: Porter Purdue, Lakelyn Purdue, Ellie Purdue, Sterling Purdue, Adam (Nyva) Waltz, Levi Stidham, and Miranda Stidham; and one great-great grandchild, Wynter Waltz.
Besides his parents, Alvin was also preceded in death by three brothers: Lester Otte, Harlan Otte, and Gerald Otte; and one sister, Eunice Lutes.
Funeral services for Alvin Morris Otte will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, December 12, 2025, at Spurgeon Funeral Home, Inc., Brownstown. Friends may call from 12:00 noon until the time of the service at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, December 12, 2025, at Spurgeon Funeral Home, Inc.
Interment will follow at Whites Chapel Cemetery.
Memorials may be given to Whites Chapel Cemetery or St. Paul Lutheran Church, Borchers Cemetery.
