Alvin Terkhorn, age 95, of Seymour, passed away on Tuesday, November 22, 2022, at Lutheran Community Home, Seymour.
Mr. Terkhorn was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, Seymour.
Alvin retired from Cummins Engine Co. after 27 1/2 years of service. After his retirement, he drove a school bus for the Seymour Community School system for 20 years, as well as mowing for the Seymour schools. Alvin and his wife, Emma Jean, also owned the Dudleytown grocery store for several years. Mr. Terkhorn was in the United States Marine Corps, and he was a member of Seymour Legion Post 89.
Born on June 4, 1927, in Jackson County, Alvin was the son of Louis and Martha Petering Terkhorn, both of whom preceded him in death. On January 16, 1949, he married Emma Jean Goss, and she preceded him in death on January 26, 2014.
Survivors include two daughters: Brenda (Gene) Bobb of Vallonia, and Martha (Jim) Freeman of Prineville, Oregon; four grandchildren: Aaron Bobb, Blake Bobb, Corey (Tomie) Bobb, and Brett (Stephanie) Freeman; four great-grandchildren: Rachael Freeman, Garrett Freeman, Sage Broughton, and Brinley Bobb; and sister-in-law, Kathleen Terkhorn.
Alvin was also preceded in death by three brothers: Ernest Terkhorn, Harold Terkhorn, and Victor Terkhorn; two sisters: Wilma Terkhorn and Bernice Sheets; and brother-in-law, Gene Sheets.
Funeral services for Alvin Terkhorn will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, December 1, 2022, at Zion Lutheran Church, Seymour, with Pastor Jeffrey Stuckwisch officiating. Friends may call from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, November 30, 2022, at Spurgeon Funeral Home, Inc., Brownstown, and from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, December 1, 2022, at Zion Lutheran Church, Seymour.
Interment will follow at Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery, Seymour.
Military honors will be presented by Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1925, American Legion Post 89, Disabled American Veterans 47, and Vietnam Vets 7.
Memorials may be given to Zion Lutheran Church, Lutheran Community Home, Schneck Medical Center Hospice, or donor's choice.
