Barbara Self, age 88, of Brownstown, passed away on Friday, December 1, 2023, at Hoosier Christian Village, Brownstown.
Barbara was a member of Brownstown Christian Church for most of her life.
Mrs. Self was a proud Avon Sales representative selling products for over 35 years. She worked as a CNA and, she also volunteered at Hoosier Christian Village. She especially enjoyed helping with the activities at the nursing home.
Barbara was a loving and dedicated mother. Her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, were her pride and joy. She loved helping and caring for others. It was her passion to always try to take care of others first.
Born on February 14, 1935, in Washington, Indiana, Barbara was the daughter of Mary Katherine (Grove) and Icil Kirk, both of whom preceded her in death. On October 9, 1951, she married Wayne Self, and he preceded her in death in 1999.
Survivors include three sons: Doug Self of Seymour, Tim Self of Seymour, and Charles (Kelli) Self of Newburgh; one daughter, Lisa (Duane) Pray of Brownstown; 16 grandchildren: Amy (Shane) Criswell, Aaron (Becky) Self, Brandi (Brad) Thompson, Nicki (Lindsay) Perry, Ryan Self, Joshua Self, Jason Self, Josh Self, Jordan (Lauren) Young, Brooke (Craig) Reid, Layton Pray, Sasha (Ben) Sitterding, Tyler (Betsy) Pray, Vaughn Self, Vince Self, and Katelynn Rogers; 26 great-grandchildren; and daughters-in-law, Rhonda Self, and Vicki Self.
Barbara was also preceded in death by two sons: Kenny Self and Rick Self; and one sister, Marilyn Lents.
Funeral services for Barbara Self will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, December 7, 2023, at Spurgeon Funeral Home, Inc., Brownstown, with Pastor Doug Pogue officiating. Friends may call from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, December 6, 2023, at Spurgeon Funeral Home, Inc., Brownstown, and from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, December 7, 2023, at the funeral home.
Interment will follow at Fairview Cemetery, Brownstown.
Memorials may be given to Hoosier Christian Village Auxiliary.
