Bernice Heller Kenny, age 104, of Zionsville, Indiana, and formerly of Brownstown, Indiana, passed away at 5:50 p.m. on Thursday, October 16, 2014 at Hearth at Tudor Gardens, Zionsville, Indiana. She was a member of Brownstown United Methodist Church, where she taught Sunday School and sang in the choir for many years. She graduated from Brownstown High School in 1928 and from Franklin College in 1932. Bernice taught Home Economics and Health at Brownstown High School until her marriage. She was then employed as a cashier with First National Bank in Brownstown, served on the Board of Directors and became Vice President of the First National Bank until the bank's merger with Brownstown Loan & Trust in 1965, now known as The Peoples Bank. She then served on the Board of Directors of The Peoples Bank from October 1, 1965 to December 31, 1999. Her memberships include the American Legion Auxiliary, Republican Women's Club, Jackson County Historical Society and Southern Indiana Center for the Arts. She was also a member of the Delta Delta Delta sorority, serving as President during her senior year at Franklin College. She served as President for two years of the United Methodist Women, President for two years of the Brownstown Study Club and also President of Beta Mu chapter of Psi Iota Xi Sorority for two years. Born on October 9, 1910, in Brownstown, Indiana, she was the daughter of Thornton P. and Ethel Perry Heller, both of whom preceded her in death. She married Joseph H. Kenny in 1935 and he preceded her in death on December 2, 1988. Survivors include two nieces, Nancy Heller Husted of Naples, Florida, and Alice Ross of Ravena, New York; three nephews, J. Thomas Heller of Carmel, Indiana, John T. Winks of Mooresville, Indiana, and David A.Winks of St. Cloud, Florida; and several great-nieces and great-nephews. In addition to her parents and her husband, she was also preceded in death by two sisters, Vivian Winks and Lena Heller; two brothers, John T. Heller and George M. Heller; two sisters-in-law, Helen June Heller and Olga Heller; a step-niece, Margaret Ann Cotrim of Sao Paulo, Brazil, S.A. and two step nephews, Elwyn T. Winks of Franklin, Indiana, and W. Eugene Winks of Plainfield, Indiana. Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, October 21, 2014 at the Brownstown United Methodist Church with Pastor Kevin Stiles officiating. Friends may call from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service at the Brownstown United Methodist Church on Tuesday, October 21, 2014. Burial will be at Fairview Cemetery, Brownstown.
