Blake Matthew Hackman, age 64, a respected and lifelong resident of Jackson County, peacefully passed away at his home on Thursday, January 16, 2025, with his loved ones by his side. Blake had a strong faith, and he was an active member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, Seymour. He was baptized in Christ at St. John's Lutheran Church, Sauers, on August 17, 1960, and confirmed in faith on April 7, 1974, at Immanuel Lutheran Church. Blake graduated from Seymour High School and went on to earn a Bachelor of Science degree in Agricultural Education from Purdue University in December, 1984. While at Purdue, he was an active participant in the Varsity Glee Club. After graduating from Purdue, Blake started his career at Knox Community School Corporation, working there from 1985 to 1987. He then took on the role of agricultural teacher and FFA advisor at Brownstown Central Community School Corporation, where he served from August, 1987, until his retirement in July, 2024. He was a compassionate listener, trusted mentor and valuable advisor, always willing to volunteer his time and offer support for his students. His passion for teaching and guiding young minds marked his memorable tenure as an agriculture teacher and FFA advisor at Brownstown Central High School. Blake's love for music and singing was one of the many gifts he shared with his family and friends. His voice enhanced countless weddings, funerals, and church services, touching the hearts of all who had the pleasure of listening. Blake was a devoted supporter of the Jackson County Fair, and he had a strong passion for flowers and baking. Those who knew Blake will remember his selflessness. His dedication to serving others was evident in every aspect of his life. A loyal friend to many, Blake was always ready to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. Blake was deeply loved by his family, and he cherished every moment spent with them. Born on July 28, 1960, in Seymour, Blake was the son of Earl and Joyce (Goecker) Hackman. His father preceded him in death on April 29, 2007, and his mother survives in Brownstown. Survivors also include two sisters: Tracy (Keith) Stam of Brownstown, and Karla (Brian) Thompson of Seymour; one sister-in-law, Cher Hackman of Brownstown; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Blake was also preceded in death by three brothers: Troy Douglas Hackman, Travis Earl Hackman, and Kyle A. Louis Hackman. Funeral services for Blake Matthew Hackman will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, January 22, 2025, at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Seymour, with Pastor Ralph Blomenberg, Pastor Jimmy Rodriguez, and Pastor Will Fredstrom officiating. Friends may call from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 21, 2025, at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Seymour, and from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, January 22, 2025, at Immanuel Lutheran Church. Interment will follow at St. John's Lutheran Church, Sauers Cemetery. Memorials may be given to Immanuel Lutheran Church Endowment, St. John's Lutheran Church, Sauers, or Donor's choice.
