Carolyn Ann Hurt, age 86, of Brownstown, passed away peacefully early Friday morning, January 17, 2025, at Hoosier Christian Village, Brownstown, surrounded by her family. Carolyn was a member of Brownstown Christian Church. She worked as a Secretary at Marion-Kay Spices in Brownstown before moving on to a position in Registration at Schneck Medical Center, where she eventually retired. After retiring, she worked part-time at the Clerk's office handling voter registrations and at JayC Foods Plus. Carolyn had a profound love for her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and she was deeply cherished by them in return. She loved traveling with her late husband, her family, and her dogs. In her free time, she enjoyed sewing, cross-stitching, knitting, crocheting, crafting, and reading books and novels. She was also an avid Indiana Pacers fan. Born on May 7, 1938, in Freetown, Carolyn was the daughter of Roger and Naomi (Goble) Fields, both of whom preceded her in death. On March 27, 1957, at Freetown Christian Church, she married James A. Hurt, and he preceded her in death on October 15, 2009. Survivors include four sons: Mark Allen Hurt of Seymour, Roger David (Sharon) Hurt of Brownstown, James Brent (Tami) Hurt of Brownstown, and Timothy Wayne Hurt of Seymour; four grandchildren: Erin (Clint) Tape of Vallonia, Hayleigh (Chris) Neumann of Indianapolis, Whitney Hurt of Indianapolis, and Brent (Kelsey) Hurt of Brownstown; seven great-grandchildren: Sawyer Tape, Sullivan Tape, Davis Neumann, Parker Tape, Pierson Tape, Quinn Neumann, and Willow Hurt; and one sister-in-law, Shirley Deitz. Carolyn was also preceded in death by her father-in-law and mother-in-law, Frank and Hazel Hurt; daughter-in-law, Kimberly Hurt; and brother-in-law, Earl Deitz. Funeral services for Carolyn Ann Hurt will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, January 23, 2025, at Spurgeon Funeral Home, Inc., Brownstown, with Pastor Mitchell McIntyre officiating. Friends may call from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the service at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, January 23, 2025, at Spurgeon Funeral Home, Inc. Interment will follow at Spraytown Cemetery.
