Charles "Charlie" Alvin Banister

Charles "Charlie" Alvin Banister, age 72, of Norman, passed away on Tuesday, September 20, 2022, at his home.
Mr. Banister worked as a mechanic at Ruddicks and later was employed at Arvin Industries prior to his retirement. He was a member of the Indiana Volunteer Firefighters Association, a volunteer fireman for the Owen-Salt Creek Volunteer Fire Department for more than 20 years, and a founding member of Wrench Bender's Car Club. Charlie loved fishing with his wife, listening to music with his family, working on cars, drag racing, and attending car shows.
Born on October 6, 1949, in Jennings County, Charlie was the son of Alvin and Margaret Carmer Banister, both of whom preceded him in death. On December 28, 1991, at Freetown Church of the Nazarene, he married Keela Lynn Henson, and she survives in Norman.
Survivors also include three sons: Eric (Brittany) Banister of Scottsburg, Aaron (Joy) Banister of Freetown, and Kegan Banister of Norman; two daughters: Gloria (Brandon Smith) Banister of Deputy, and Amy Banister of Louisville, Kentucky; one brother, Clyde Banister of North Vernon; one sister, Kay (Rick) Cornett of Butlerville; six grandchildren: Porter Banister, Claire Banister, Aiden Banister, Maggie Banister, Aubrie Banister, and Jacob Smith; and several nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, Mr. Banister was also preceded in death by a brother, Michael Banister; and three sisters: Becky Sandlin, Mary Robbins, and Susie Banister.
Funeral services for Charles "Charlie" Alvin Banister will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 24, 2022, at Spurgeon Funeral Home, Inc., Brownstown, with Pastor Floyd Fisher officiating. Friends may call from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, September 23, 2022, at Spurgeon Funeral Home, Inc., Brownstown, and from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 24, 2022, at the funeral home.
Interment will be at Kurtz Cemetery.
Memorials may be given to Kurtz Cemetery.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the caring staff at Spurgeon Funeral Home, Inc., Brownstown.
