Daniel B. Horton Jr.

Daniel B. Horton, Jr., of Seymour, was reunited with his Lord on his 86th birthday on Tuesday, March 19, 2024, at Methodist Hospital, Indianapolis, surrounded by his loving family.
Dr. Horton was a very active member of Central Christian Church, Seymour, since 1981, and he served on various church committees. He loved serving his Lord and Savior, and he also enjoyed serving others.
Dr. Horton graduated from Clearspring High School in 1956. He later taught at Clearspring High School from 1959 to 1966, serving as Principal of the school the last five years of his tenure. He then attended Indiana University receiving four degrees, a B.S. in 1959, a M.S. in 1962, an Ed.S. in 1965, and an Ed.D. in 1968. Dan then served as a Professor of Education at Indiana State University for 34 years, dedicated to teaching Research Methodology to graduate students, as well as supervising student teachers. Dr. Horton was also a farmer, and he enjoyed farming.
Dan was loved beyond measure by his wife, Helen, his children, and his grandchildren, and he in turn loved each one of them dearly and treasured spending time with them. He recently said "all of our children and grandchildren keep our lives occupied keeping up about what is going on in their lives. Happily, all of them provide us with nothing but joy". Dan was an avid I.U. basketball fan and bridge player.
Born on March 19, 1938, in Seymour, Dan was the son of Dan and Clara Belle (Miser) Horton, both of whom preceded him in death. On August 19, 1962, he married Helen Jane Battram, and she survives in Seymour.
Survivors also include one son, "DB" (Marie) Horton, III, of Seymour; one daughter, Gretchen (Mark) Zolman of Fort Wayne; and six grandchildren: Erika Horton, Daniel (Haley) Horton, IV, Elizabeth Zolman, Kathryn Zolman, Tessa Zolman, and Jack Zolman.
Mr. Horton was also preceded in death by five sisters: Lorene Otting, Nelle Schrader, Alyce Williams, Margaret "Mossie" Watson, and Isabelle Lynch.
Funeral services for Dan B. Horton, Jr. will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 23, 2024, at Central Christian Church, Seymour, with Pastor Tyler Tolbert officiating. Friends may call from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the service at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 23, 2024, at Central Christian Church, Seymour.
Interment will follow at Riverview Cemetery, Seymour.
Memorials may be given to Central Christian Church, Seymour.
