Obituary

Darlene Sommers, age 92, of Brownstown, passed away peacefully on Sunday afternoon, August 16, 2026, at Forest Path of the Lutheran Community Home, Seymour.

Mrs. Sommers was a life-time member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, Wegan.

Darlene served as secretary to the superintendent of the Brownstown Central School System for 28 years. She also dedicated 20 years to serving as a clerk at the Brownstown Library.

Darlene was a former member of Hickory Hills Golf Club. She enjoyed playing cards, shopping, attending Brownstown Central sporting events, traveling, and going on cruises. Throughout her lifetime, she had the opportunity to visit all 50 states, as well as several foreign countries.

Born on November 8, 1933, in Brownstown, Darlene was the daughter of Henry and Laura (Lambring) Nierman, both of whom preceded her in death. On November 29, 1997, she married C. Louis “Lou” Sommers, and he preceded her in death on April 13, 2014.

Survivors include three stepsons: Gale (Anne) Sommers of Falls Creek, Virginia, Mark (Joyce) Sommers of Brownstown, and Brian Sommers of Brownstown; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; two brothers: Glen (Dee) Nierman of Brownstown, and Roger Nierman of Brownstown; two sisters: Lois Klebenow of Columbus, and Donna Miller of Indianapolis; sister-in-law, Velma Nierman of Brownstown; and several nieces and nephews.

Darlene was also preceded in death by one brother, Wayne Nierman; one sister and brother-in-law, JoAnn and Ronald Hoffman; one nephew, Jason Nierman; sister-in-law, JoElla Nierman; and brothers-in-law: Larry Klebenow and David Miller.

Funeral services for Darlene Sommers will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, August 20, 2026, at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Wegan, with Pastor Joel Meyer officiating. Friends may call from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, August 20, 2026, St. Paul Lutheran Church, Wegan.

Interment will be at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Wegan Cemetery.

Memorials may be given to C. Louis Sommers Foundation, St. Paul Lutheran Church, Wegan, or Donor’s choice.
