Denise Ann Nichols, age 67, of Dudleytown, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, June 18, 2025, at I.U. Health Methodist Hospital, Indianapolis, with her loving family by her side.
Denise was a woman of strong faith and a devoted member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Seymour, where she worshiped and served faithfully for over 30 years. She was baptized in Christ on May 25, 1958, at Emanuel Lutheran Church, Dudleytown, and confirmed in faith on March 26, 1972, at Zion Lutheran Church. Her confirmation verse was Hebrews 13:5, "Keep your lives free from the love of money and be content with what you have, because God has said, "Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you." She loved growing in God's Word through Bible study and the fellowship she shared with her pastors.
Professionally, Denise was a dedicated project manager at Lannett Pharmaceuticals for over 40 years, known for her commitment to excellence and support for her colleagues.
Denise lived a life of compassion, dedication, and deep love for her family and community. She cherished time with her loved ones, especially her grandchildren, always keeping a basket of candy ready for them, and she also found great joy traveling with her husband.
Denise loved spending time reading, gardening, tending to her chickens, playing the piano, and preparing
homemade food for family and friends.
Born on May 3, 1958, in Seymour, Denise was the daughter of Roscoe and Bernice (VonDielingen) Christopher, both of whom preceded her in death. On October 27, 1979, at Zion Lutheran Church, Seymour, she married Mark Nichols, and he survives in Dudleytown.
Survivors also include two daughters: Lori (Kevin) Lister of Dudleytown, and Alyssa (Kyle) Gentry of Seymour; four grandchildren: Zachary Lister, Noah Lister, Olivia Gentry, and Madelyn Gentry; three sisters: Betty Noel of Seymour, Joyce Lucas of Brownstown, and Nancy (Jay) Cherry of Indianapolis; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Denise was also preceded in death by one son, Christopher Tyler Nichols; one sister, Kathleen Kerkhof; and three brothers-in-law: Dennis Noel, Bob Lucas, and Joe Kerkhof.
Funeral services for Denise Ann Nichols will be conducted at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, June 24, 2025, at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Seymour, with Pastor Ralph Blomenberg, Pastor Philip Bloch, Pastor Jimmy Rodriguez, and Pastor Will Fredstrom officiating. Friends may call from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Monday, June 23, 2025, at Spurgeon Funeral Home, Inc., Brownstown, and from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the service at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, June 24, 2025, at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Seymour.
Interment will follow at Emanuel Lutheran Church, Dudleytown Cemetery.
Memorials may be given to Immanuel Lutheran School, Immanuel Lutheran Child Care,
or Trinity Lutheran High School.
