Dorothy L. Blankenship, age 80, of Bedford, passed away on Monday, May 6, 2024, at I.U. Health, Bloomington, surrounded by her loving family.
Mrs. Blankenship was of the Methodist faith.
Dorothy was a dedicated military wife, faithfully supporting her husband during his military career. She was also a homemaker, an Avon representative, and Tupperware sales lady.
Dorothy loved her local family and her family in Ontario, Canada, and she particularly adored her grandchildren. She was in turn loved dearly by her entire family. Dorothy also loved traveling and visiting her family, clogging, country dancing, and shopping.
Born on June 23, 1943, at Pembroke Hospital, Renfrew County, Ontario, Canada, Dorothy was the daughter of William and Pearl (Wright) Willson, both of whom preceded her in death. On September 22, 1962, in Canada, she married Thomas Blankenship, and he preceded her in death on December 4, 2021.
Survivors include two daughters: Tammy (Scott) Trowbridge of Bedford, and Tanya S. (Darin) Anderson of Bedford; one brother, Terry (Colleen) Willson of Ontario, Canada; two sisters: Burniece Haskell and Dona Hammerlein, both of Ontario, Canada; sister-in-law, Diane Willson; six grandchildren: Stormi Leahy, Misty Ashley, Nicole (Steve) Erwin, Brandon Blankenship, Dilan Wilkerson, and Dalton Wilkerson; eight great-grandchildren: David, Brice, Sierra, Domnici, Rebekah, Joshua, Hayden, and Joleen; and several nieces and nephews.
Dorothy was also preceded in death by two sons: Jason Blankenship and Lee A. Blankenship; one brother, Bill Willson; two brothers-in-law: Larry Haskell and Kurt Hammerlin; one nephew, Shawn Willson; and two nieces: Pam DeBoer and Lillian Willson.
Graveside services for Dorothy L. Blankenship will be conducted at 12:00 noon on Thursday, May 9, 2024, Fairview Cemetery, Brownstown. Friends may call from 11:30 a.m. until the time of the graveside service at 12:00 noon on Thursday, May 9, 2024, at Fairview Cemetery.
