Obituary

Dwight Leroy DeWitt, age 91, of Brownstown, passed away early Saturday morning, June 6, 2026, at Hoosier Health & Living.

Mr. DeWitt was a devoted member of Brownstown First Baptist Church since 2005. During his years of service at the church, he sang in the church choir, served as a deacon, and held several leadership roles, including Trustee. Dwight was a devoted Christian throughout his life.

Dwight dedicated many years of his career to serving as an engineer at Navistar, now known as Harvester.

Dwight dearly loved his family. He enjoyed working on old cars, cutting wood, and singing with his wife.

Born on January 14, 1935, in Fort Wayne, Dwight was the son of Abraham and Margaret DeWitt, both of whom preceded him in death. On May 21, 2005, at Brownstown First Baptist Church, he married Beverley (Foster) Hanner, and she survives in Brownstown.

Survivors also include two sons: David (Becky) DeWitt of Fort Wayne, and Michael DeWitt of Fort Wayne; one stepson, Kevin (Sara) Hanner of Brownstown; two step-daughters: Debra (David) Simmons of Brownstown, and Lori (Doug) Fisher of Brownstown; step - grandchildren: Lucas (Olivia) Hanner, Adam (Hannah) Hanner, Dolan (Lorelynn) Fisher, Wendy (Bobby) Baughman, Tammy (Chad) Hughes, Melissa (Bradley) Robinson, and many other grandchildren, great – grandchildren, and step great – grandchildren.

Dwight was also preceded in death by two sons: Steven DeWitt and Dennis DeWitt; one daughter, Kaylyn DeWitt; one sister, Beverly Hursh; and two step - grandsons: Dustin Fisher and Kobe Stancombe.

Funeral services for Dwight Leroy DeWitt will be conducted at 12:00 noon on Wednesday, June 10, 2026, at Brownstown First Baptist Church with Pastor Darrin Wan officiating. Friends may call from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service at 12:00 noon on Wednesday, June 10, 2026, at Brownstown First Baptist Church.

Interment will be at Fairview Cemetery, Brownstown. 

Memorials may be given to Brownstown First Baptist Church.
