Franklin Delano Cook, Jr., age 64, of Brownstown, passed away on Thursday, January 25, 2024, at his home surrounded by his loving family.
Mr. Cook was a disabled American veteran. He served in the United States Navy for two years, being honorably discharged in September of 1977.
Franklin loved and adored his family, especially his grandchildren. He was an amazing cook, was passionate about playing music, and enjoyed working in his garden and attending auctions. Franklin never met a stranger.
Born on March 6, 1959, in Beech Grove, Franklin was the son of Franklin D. and Thelma R. (Stephens) Cook, both of whom preceded him in death. On August 13, 1976, in Bengal, he married Kathy Jo Asher, and she survives in Brownstown.
Survivors also include two sons: Jeremy (Christy) Dickhaus of Athens, Alabama, and Jason (Anna) Dickhaus of Luka, Mississippi; a specially selected nephew, Brian (Krystal) Cook of Indianapolis; two daughters: Brandy Cook of Brownstown, and Julinda (Nathan) Stout of Seymour; one brother, James V. (Tina) Cook; two sisters: Teresa Kuhn, and Deb (Terry) Wilson; 18 grandchildren: Julia O'Hair, Virginia (Jayson) Rieckers, Brandon O'Hair, Preston Dickhaus, Samantha Dickhaus, Jameson Dickhaus, Isabella Dickhaus, Landon Dickhaus, Colton Dickhaus, Michael Stout, Katylen Stout, Beckley Dickhaus, Alexis Dickhaus, Davonte Cook, Jaustin Cook, Mariah Cook, Elijah Cook, and Thomas Cox; three great-grandchildren: Madelyn Otte, Tucker Motsinger, and Everly Rieckers; two great-grandchildren to be born in 2024; and two specially selected great-grandsons: Waylon and Kyson.
Franklin was also preceded in death by two brothers: Timothy Ray Cook and Jeffery L. Cook; and specially selected brother, Joseph Heigl.
Funeral services for Franklin Delano Cook, Jr. will be conducted at 12:00 noon on Thursday, February 1, 2024, at Spurgeon Funeral Home, Inc., Brownstown, with Pastor Mitchell McIntyre officiating. Friends may call from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service at 12:00 noon on Thursday, February 1, 2024, at the funeral home.
Interment will be at Fairview Cemetery, Brownstown.
Military honors will be presented by Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1925, American Legion Post 89, Disabled American Veterans 47, and Vietnam Vets 7.
Memorials may be given to Disabled American Veterans.
