Obituary

Frederick Vance Perry, Jr., age 83, of Brownstown, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, July 15, 2026, at Schneck Medical Center, Seymour.

Mr. Perry was a devoted member of Freetown Church of Christ throughout his early years. Following his marriage to his wife, Sherrell, they became faithful members of Brownstown Christian Church, where they worshipped together for 67 years. Fred loved his church family and faithfully served his church throughout the years. He served as a deacon and was an active member of the kitchen committee, helping prepare and serve church dinners. He also found great joy in leading and mentoring the youth of the church, including accompanying them on mission trips. His unwavering faith and “heart of gold” left a lasting impact on all who knew him.

Fred dedicated more than 30 years of committed service to Kieffer Paper Mill and later worked for Valeo Sylvania before retiring.

Family was the center of Fred's life. He cherished every moment spent with his loved ones, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. A devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, he was affectionately known as "Pappy" to family and friends alike. Fred had a gift for making others smile. He loved storytelling, had a quick wit, and shared countless jokes with everyone around him. He also had a special talent for playing the harmonica.

In his free time, Fred enjoyed staying busy outdoors. He loved gardening, mowing, tending to his orchard, restoring old cars and trucks, hunting, trapping, beekeeping, and flying remote-controlled model airplanes. Whether working with his hands or spending time in nature, Fred found joy in the simple pleasures of life.

Born on November 28, 1942, in Seymour, Fred was the son of Frederick Vance, Sr. and Deloris (Pedicord) Perry, both of whom preceded him in death. On May 31, 1963, in Canton, he married the love of his life, Sherrell Bowling, and she survives in Brownstown.

Survivors also include two sons: Frederick Lee (Rebecah) Perry of Brownstown, and David Vance (Robin) Perry of Freetown; four grandchildren: Katy Perry, Mitchell (Miranda) Perry, Jaelyn (Ethan) Perry, and Carly Perry; two great-grandchildren: Walker Perry and Myles Perry; three sisters: Polly Harrell, Peggy (Billy) Neal, and Carol Fee; one sister-in-law, Audrey Perry; and several nieces and nephews.

Fred was also preceded in death by one brother, Phil Perry; and one brother-in-law, Bennie Harrell.
