Irene E. Goen, age 88, of Medora, Indiana, passed away at 12:45 p.m. on Wednesday, October 14, 2015 at Schneck Medical Center, Seymour.
She was a member of Wrays Christian Church and Clearspring Baptist Church. She was also a member of Brownstown Senior Citizens.
Irene was a factory worker. She was employed at Morgan Canning Factory in Brownstown; the Shoe Factory in Medora, Brownstown and Seymour; the Shirt Factory in Seymour; and Medora Plastic Factory. Irene also did demonstrations at Walmart in Seymour and Bedford.
Born on April 10, 1927 in Medora, Indiana, she was the daughter of Charles and Ida Mae Arthur Edwards, both of whom preceded her in death. She married Cletus Albert Goen on November 15, 1946 and he preceded her in death on October 21, 2002.
Survivors include two sons, Stephen A. (Jane) Goen of Medora and Richard D. (Goldie) Goen of Norman; five grandchildren: Michael (Sherry) Johnson; Stephen A. "Shon" Goen; Karen Brown (Brian Dodd); Jonathon (Patricia) Goen and Jason (Rebekah) Goen; 15 great grandchildren: Jordan, Jacob, Michael, Morgan, Zachery, Braden, Andrew, Evelynn, Gabriel, Cora, Isaiah, Lauren, Kaylee, Jamison and Quinton; and two great-great grandchildren: Madison and Ellena.
In addition to her parents and her husband, she was also preceded in death by one son, Martin Douglas Goen; three brothers, Clyde Edwards, Harry Edwards and Glenn Edwards; and three sisters, Hazel Charles, Mayme Harris and Kathleen Roberts.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 17, 2015 at Spurgeon Funeral Home, Inc., Brownstown, with Pastor David Sawyers officiating. Friends may call from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, October 16, 2015 at Spurgeon Funeral Home, Inc., Brownstown, and from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service on Saturday, October 17, 2015 at Spurgeon Funeral Home, Inc., Brownstown.
Burial will be at Fairview Cemetery, Brownstown.
