James “Jim” Leonard Thompson, age 64, of Freetown, passed away on Saturday morning, January 24, 2026, at his home with his wife by his side.

Mr. Thompson worked as a dedicated construction/union hod carrier for most of his life.

Jim loved his family dearly, and especially treasured spending time with his wife, Mary, and his grandson, Jude. Family was first and foremost in Jim’s life. He would always do anything for his family at any time.

Jim had a passion for woodworking, particularly building cedar chests and swings. He also enjoyed watching NASCAR, Andy Griffith, Bonanza, and Big Bang Theory.

Born on April 23, 1961, in Brownstown, Jim was the son of Bill and Donna (Greathouse) Thompson, both of whom preceded him in death. On August 29, 1966, he married Mary Hull, and she survives in Brownstown.

Survivors also include one daughter, Jamie Thompson of Indianapolis; one grandson, Jude Quinn of Indianapolis; and one sister, Debbie Thompson of Spencer.

Jim was also preceded in death by one son, Jimmy Thompson; two brothers: David Thompson and Bill Thompson; and one sister, Patti Thompson.

Cremation has been selected by the family. A memorial service will be held at a later date.
