Janice Marie Schult, age 89, of Seymour, passed away on Saturday evening, August 1, 2026, at The Lutheran Community Home, with her family by her side.
Janice was a faithful member of Zion Lutheran Church in Seymour and was formerly a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church and St. Peter's Lutheran Church, both in Fort Wayne. Her Christian faith was the foundation of her life, and she had a heart for serving the Lord and His church. She served as an LWML delegate, taught Sunday school, sang in the choir, and found great joy worshiping alongside her family. She also shared her gifts through Stephen Ministry, served as Spiritual Gift Coordinator, and led the Shepherding Program. She faithfully prayed for her family, lived with humility and integrity, and had a special gift for making everyone feel loved and cared for.
After earning her Bachelor of Science in Education from Concordia Teacher's College in River Forest, Illinois, Janice dedicated her career to Christian education. She retired from Bethlehem Lutheran School after many years of faithfully serving both as a teacher and librarian. Even after retirement, she remained a teacher at heart, always encouraging, mentoring, and caring for others.
Janice enjoyed reading, journaling, sewing, hosting family and friends, and showing hospitality to everyone around her. She especially loved baking cookies, playing games, and spending time with her grandchildren, who brought her tremendous joy.
Born on November 14, 1936, in Napoleon, Ohio, she was the daughter of Albert and Hilda (Hesterman) Damman, both of whom preceded her in death. On July 13, 1958, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Napoleon, Ohio, she married Daniel Schult, and he survives in Seymour.
Survivors also include three sons: Philip (Kim) Schult of Granada, Minnesota, Paul (Beth) Schult of Redwood City, California, and Michael (Sherry) Schult of Seymour; 13 grandchildren: Joshua (Leslie) Schult, Kyla Schult, Leah Schult, Micah Schult, Nadia Schult, Madeline (Corey) Garrity, Allison (Brandon) Li, Nathan (Cameron) Schult, Samuel Schult, Elise Schult, Hannah (Adam) Faurot, Jacob (Abby) Schult, and Abigail (Matthew) Burgener; nine great-grandchildren and two on the way; and brothers-in-law and sisters–in-law: Dave (Dena) Schult, Bob (Carolyn) Burger, and Diane Domine.
Janice was also preceded in death by two brothers: Marvin Damman and Maurice “Moe” Damman; and sister-in-law, Betty Damman.
