Jean Ray, age 82, of North Vernon, Indiana, formerly of Brownstown, Indiana, died at 2:36 p.m. on Friday, June 27, 2014 at Jennings Healthcare, North Vernon, Indiana. She was a member of the Living Word Baptist Church, Seymour, Indiana, and was a homemaker. Born on July 6, 1931, in Jackson County, Indiana, she was the daughter of Howard and Sada Collinsworth Scott, both of whom preceded her in death. She married Donald E. Ray, Sr., on August 23, 1947 in Jackson County, Indiana, and he preceded her in death on December 2, 1999. Survivors include two sons, Donald E. (Gaile) Ray, Jr. of North Vernon, Indiana, and Charles F. (Karen) Ray of Murfreesboro, Tennesee, and one daughter, Diana (Bill) Abbott of Seymour, Indiana. Also surviving include seven grandchildren: Scott R. Minton, Rebekah N. Ray, Stacy J. Batts, Shane Ray, Misty Vaughn, Heather Renee Chase and Brittney Ann Findley; 13 great grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one daughter, Reva Ann Minton, and one grandson, Danny Eugene Minton. Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, July 1, 2014 at Spurgeon Funeral Home, Inc., Brownstown, with Pastor Charles F. Ray officiating. Friends may call from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the service at the funeral home on Tuesday, July 1, 2014. Burial will be at Fairview Cemetery, Brownstown. Memorials may be given to American Cancer Society or Fairview Cemetery Fund.
