Jerry Dale Banks, age 87, of Brownstown, passed away peacefully on Friday, May 2, 2025, at Hoosier Health & Living, Brownstown, surrounded by his loving family.
Mr. Banks was an active member of Brownstown United Methodist Church, where he held various leadership positions and taught adult Sunday school.
Jerry served in the United States Army National Guard during the 1960s. Following his military service, he became a pharmacist and dedicated his career to working in his family's businesses until his retirement. Jerry devoted his career in pharmacy to serving the community through his work at Brownstown Pharmacy, Twin Town Drugs, and Family Drug.
Jerry enjoyed woodworking, golfing at Hickory Hills Golf Course, fishing, and playing bridge. He was also a dedicated member of the Washington Lodge #13 F&AM, Brownstown Town Board, Fairview Cemetery Board, and Brownstown Public Library Board, and he was a proud Purdue supporter. In recognition of their community involvement, he and his wife, Sally, were honored as 2006 Citizens of the Year by the Brownstown Chamber of Commerce.
Born on December 14, 1937, in Seymour, Jerry was the son of Daniel L. and Golda (Shelton) Banks, both of whom preceded him in death. In 1959, while attending Purdue University, he married the love of his life, Sally Ann Butt, and she preceded him in death on September 26, 2006.
Survivors include two sons: Daniel (Arann) Banks of Brownstown, and David Banks of Brownstown; and four grandchildren: Tyler Banks (Amanda Steele) of Indianapolis, Sally (Jacobi) Lawson of Brownstown, Willis (Nathan) Banks of Kansas City, Missouri, and Mitchell (Sara) Banks of Brownstown.
Mr. Banks was also preceded in death by one brother, Daniel Banks, Jr.
Friends may call from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 6, 2025, at Spurgeon Funeral Home, Inc., Brownstown. A masonic service for Jerry Dale Banks will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday May 6, 2025, at Spurgeon Funeral Home, Inc. Immediately following the masonic service, funeral services will be conducted at Spurgeon Funeral Home, Inc. with Pastor Merlin Pratt officiating.
A graveside service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, May 7, 2025, at Fairview Cemetery, Brownstown.
Memorials may be given to Washington Lodge #13 F&AM.
