Jerry M. Waskom, age 81, of Seymour, passed away peacefully early Thursday morning, September 17, 2026, at his home surrounded by his loving family.

On February 25, 1945, Mr. Waskom was baptized into Christ at Emanuel Lutheran Church, Dudleytown. He was confirmed at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Seymour on April 10, 1960, where he later married and became a devoted member of the congregation alongside his wife, Sandy.

Jerry was a dedicated contractor and operator for Indiana Gas Co. for more than 40 years before retiring in 2005. He and his wife also operated Pete’s Tavern in Dudleytown for several years, where they created many lasting friendships in the community.

Jerry loved his family dearly and treasured spending time with them. He also had a special place in his heart for his beloved dog, Rosie. Jerry had a sense of humor and loved to tease those around him. His teasing was his own special way of showing others how much he cared.

Jerry had a passion for camping, watching Westerns, spending time outdoors, and hunting. He was known as a wonderful cook and had a special love for horses and mules, especially riding horses and wagons. One of Jerry’s proudest accomplishments was building a cabin on the family property alongside his son, Mike.

Born on February 11, 1945, in Seymour, Jerry was the son of Melvin and Marie (Wienhorst) Waskom, both of whom preceded him in death. On January 12, 1973, at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Seymour, he married Sandy Kay Baker, and she survives in Seymour.

Survivors also include two sons: Mike (Julie Netser) Thompson of Seymour, and Matt (Michelle) Waskom of Charlotte, North Carolina; three daughters: Shelley “Michelle” Simpson of Seymour, Kourtney (Sam) Dowd of Milford, Ohio, and Whitney (Josh) Fremstad of Winside, Nebraska; four grandchildren: Travis (Katie) Thompson, Morgan (Tyler) Adams, Joe Waskom, and Riley (Christian) Leyburn; three great-grandchildren: Owen Thompson, Madeline Thompson, and Levi Fremstad; two sisters: Shirley (Melvin) Ploog and Nancy (Keith) Wischmeier; two brothers-in-law: Don Baker and Jack Baker; two sisters-in-law: Martha Harrison and Karen (Jan) Fogle; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Jerry was also preceded in death by one son, Michael Joe Waskom; one nephew, Kent Ploog; sister-in-law, Alice Baker and Phyllis Baker; and brother-in-law, Gary Harrison.

Funeral services for Jerry M. Waskom will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 26, 2026, at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Seymour, with Pastor Ralph Blomenberg and Pastor Philip Bloch officiating. Friends may call from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the service at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 26, 2026, at Immanuel Lutheran Church.

Serving as pallbearers will be Joe Waskom, Travis Thompson, Ryan Wischmeier, John Brock, Seth Brock, Jamie Brown, and Owen Thompson.

Interment will follow at Emanuel Lutheran Church, Cemetery.

Memorials may be given to Emmanuel Lutheran Church, Dudleytown Cemetery, Trinity Lutheran High School, Immanuel Lutheran Church, Schneck Medical Center Hospice, or American Cancer Society.
