John A. Olson, age 69, of Brownstown, passed away on Friday, August 21, 2026, at Ascension St. Vincent Hospital, Indianapolis, surrounded by his loving family.

Mr. Olson was a member of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, Brownstown.

John graduated from Logansport High School in 1975. He was a lifelong, passionate golf enthusiast, who dedicated much of his career to the sport. In 1976, shortly after graduating, John began his career at Kokomo Country Club, where he served as an assistant golf professional. He then spent two years as an assistant at Anderson Country Club before joining Hickory Hills Golf Club, Inc. in Brownstown on March 16, 1982. John remained with Hickory Hills for more than 41 years, retiring on December 31, 2023. His love for golf was an important part of his life and career.

John was an active member of Washington Lodge No. 13 F & AM.

John cherished his family deeply and especially loved watching his sons and grandsons participate in sports. He treasured the time spent together as a family, particularly during their annual vacations to Florida and Kentucky Kingdom.

Born on February 15, 1957, in Logansport, John was the son of Raymond and Elsie (Larson) Olson, both of whom preceded him in death. On February 2, 1980, at Twelve Mile, he married Joni B. Bookwalter, and she survives in Brownstown.

Survivors also include two sons: Jonathon (Morgan) Olson of Columbus, Ohio, and Jacob (Laken) Olson of Brownstown; two grandchildren: Rhett Olson and Ryler Olson; and two sisters: Nancy (Kevin) Rose and Linda Pearson.

John was also preceded in death by a brother-in-law, Steve Pearson.

A Masonic Service for John A. Olson will be conducted at 4:00 p.m. on Friday, August 28, 2026, at Spurgeon Funeral Home, Inc., Brownstown. Funeral services will follow with Pastor Ryan Schneider officiating. Friends may call from 1:00 p.m. until the time of the service at 4:00 p.m. on Friday, August 28, 2026, at Spurgeon Funeral Home, Inc.

Memorials may be given to Hickory Hills Golf Club, Inc.
