Larry William Cox, age 77, of Freetown, passed away peacefully at his home, overlooking his property, on Friday afternoon, September 19, 2025, with his loved ones surrounding him.
Mr. Cox was a devoted member of Christiansburg Church in Brown County.
Larry was employed at Cummins Engine Company and was a member of the Diesel Workers Union, where he worked from 1968 to 2006. During his tenure, he served as the DWU Shop Steward for 27 years and as a DWU Grievance Committeeman for eight years.
Larry lived life to the fullest. He enjoyed hiking, horseback riding, and working on various crafts, including painting and leatherwork. His passions also included aerial photography, Corvettes, and riding his Harley-Davidson motorcycles. A licensed pilot, he even owned his own airplane. Larry took great pride in maintaining his property. He especially enjoyed working outdoors, keeping his yard and pond beautifully cared for.
Born on April 9, 1948, in Columbus, Indiana, Larry was the son of William T. and Mildred V. (Robertson) Cox, both of whom preceded him in death.
Survivors include one brother, Gary W. Cox of Freetown; one sister, Debra A. (Cox) Hutson of Ellettsville; several nieces and nephews; the Long family, to whom Larry was an adopted uncle; and longtime companion, Marilyn Williams.
Larry was also preceded in death by two sisters: Janet Sue (Cox) George and Sandra L. (Cox) James; and one step-grandson, Zackery Knott.
Funeral services for Larry William Cox will be conducted at 12:00 p.m. on Monday, September 22, 2025, at Freetown Church of Christ, with Pastor Jeremy Keller officiating. Friends may call from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service at 12:00 p.m. at Freetown Church of Christ, Freetown.
Interment will follow at Christiansburg Cemetery, Brown County.
Memorials may be given to Muscular Dystrophy Association or Our Hospice, Columbus.
