Larry M. Silence, age 72, of Brownstown, Indiana, passed away at 12:15 p.m. on Tuesday, November 4, 2014 at his residence. He was a 1961 graduate of Brownstown High School and served in the Army National Guard of Indiana and as a Reserve of the Army. He retired from Kieffer Paper Mill in Brownstown after 40 years of employment. After his retirement, he worked as a custodian at Brownstown Middle School for numerous years. Born on January 11, 1942, in Seymour, Indiana, he was the son of Melvin and Catherine Owens Silence, both of whom preceded him in death. He married Mary Lou Stidam on December 17, 1961 at the Brownstown Nazarene Church and she survives in Brownstown. Survivors also include one son, Clifton "Tim" (Carol) Silence of Brownstown; two daughters, Rebecca "Becky" (Richard) Reynolds of Norman and Debra "Susie" (Tony) Lehr of Brownstown; one brother, Lester Silence of Athens, Alabama; six grandchildren, David (Lacy) Reynolds, Christy Ellis, Kim (Joey) Mikels, Ashley (Brandon) Jones, T.J. Silence and Melanie Lehr; and 11 great grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by one sister, Linda Meyer, and great granddaughter, Kiana Jones. Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, November 7, 2014 at Spurgeon Funeral Home, Inc., Brownstown, with Steve Silence officiating. Friends may call from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, November 6, 2014, at Spurgeon Funeral Home, Inc., Brownstown, and from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service on Friday, November 7, 2014 at the funeral home. Burial will be at Fairview Cemetery, Brownstown. Memorials may be given to the Alzheimer's Association or the American Cancer Society.
