Lee P. McCory, age 80, of Brownstown, passed away early Wednesday morning, September 23, 2026, at his home surrounded by his loving family.

Mr. McCory was a lifelong member of Brownstown United Methodist Church.

Lee proudly served his country as a member of the United States Army during the Vietnam War. Following his military service, Lee remained deeply patriotic and took great pride in his country. He went on to dedicate 40 years of service as a superintendent at Milestone Contractors before retiring.

Lee cherished his family dearly and treasured the time he spent with them. He especially enjoyed family vacations when his daughters were younger and spending time at home watching John Wayne westerns with his wife, Jill. Lee also loved the outdoors, where he enjoyed fishing and camping with his brother, Kenny, along the Muscatatuck River and in the surrounding areas. He had a special place in his heart for his cats and dog, Nina, and took great joy in caring for them.

Born on January 27, 1946, in Brownstown, Lee was the son of Cyrus and Dorothy (Reynolds) McCory, both of whom preceded him in death. On February 22, 1997, at Brownstown United Methodist Church, he married Jill Scarbrough, and she survives in Brownstown.

Survivors also include twin daughters: Jamie (Jack) Knichel of Brownstown, and Judy (James) Doyle of Brownstown; one step-daughter, Linda (Matt) Posey of Seymour; grandchildren: Tyler (Katherine) Blaker, Rusty (Rosa) Blaker, Lakyn Knichel, Breanna (Travis) Knichel, Kyle (Kalynn) Lauster, April Blaker, Jesse Blaker, Jared (Dystany) Doyle, James Doyle, Alaina Lee, Sydney (Kyren) Dalzell, Jay White, Tristan (Annie) White, Annabelle Posey, and Isabella Doyle; great-grandchildren: Aubree Knichel, M.J Doyle, Dalila Doyle, Hudson Black, Jakobe Lauster, Archer Zollinger, Sadi Zollinger, Mady Blaker, Ivory White, and Zyden Dalzell; one brother, Kenny McCory of Brownstown; one sister, Pat Yeary of Brownstown; nieces: Jessica McCory, Shelia Love, and Tammy Endris; and nephews: Chris McCory, Michael McCory, Daniel McCory, and Jason McCory.

Lee was also preceded in death by one daughter, Renee Blaker; one brother, James McCory; brother-in-law, John Yeary; and father-in-law and mother-in-law, Dick and Linda Maxwell.

Funeral services for Lee P. McCory will be conducted at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 30, 2026, at Spurgeon Funeral Home, Inc., Brownstown, with Pastor Jimmy Albertson officiating. Friends may call from 3:00 p.m. until the time of the service at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 30, 2026, at Spurgeon Funeral Home, Inc.

Military honors will be presented by Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1925, American Legion Post 89, Disabled American Veterans 47, and Vietnam Vets 7 at Spurgeon Funeral Home, Inc.

A private family graveside service will be held at Smallwood Cemetery at a later date.

Memorials may be given to the Wounded Warrior Project.
