Leon Ralph Peters, age 89, of Medora, passed away on Saturday, July 19, 2025, at his home surrounded by his loving family.
Leon served in the United States Navy during the Korean War.
Leon loved to travel the world. A certified welder by trade, his skills took him to many different states and even overseas, allowing him to explore new places while doing the work he loved. He also spent part of his career at the Golden Foundry, where he was known for his dedication and craftsmanship.
Mr. Peters loved his family dearly, and he especially loved fishing and having a drink on the porch with his late wife, Sharon, enjoying the abundant wildlife at their home. He also had a deep passion for working outside on his property and was rarely seen without his camera, as he was always ready to capture special moments wherever he went.
Born on March 16, 1936, in Jackson County, Leon was the son of Ralph and Esther (Bode) Peters, both of whom preceded him in death. On June 15, 1992, at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, Medora, he married Sharon L. (Hall) Charles, and she preceded him in death on December 15, 2023.
Survivors include one daughter, Amber (Jason) Russell of Seymour; one son, Jeff (Cindy) Peters of Vallonia; three sisters: Janice (Paul) Hoffman, Marlene (Glenn) Streitelmeier, and Trudy (Tom) Shelton; four grandchildren: Matthew Russell, Ryan Doty, Jessica Harmeyer, and Shane Peters; four great-grandchildren: Lane Harmeyer, Sadie Harmeyer, Lennie Harmeyer, and Wade Peters; and his beloved dog, Sophie "Little Darlin".
Leon was also preceded in death by one daughter, Jill Peters; and stepson, Nathan Charles.
Funeral services for Leon Ralph Peters will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, July 23, 2025, at Spurgeon Funeral Home, Inc., Brownstown. Friends may call from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the service at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, July 23, 2025, at Spurgeon Funeral Home, Inc.
Interment will follow at White Creek Lutheran Church Cemetery.
Military honors will be presented by Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1925, American Legion Post 89, Disabled American Veterans 47, and Vietnam Vets 7.
Memorials may be given to White Creek Lutheran Church.
