Linda Anglin, age 66, of North Vernon, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, May 28, 2025, at Schneck Medical Center, Seymour surrounded by her daughter.
Linda was a longtime member of Brownstown Christian Church. Her faith was a steady and meaningful part of her life. She had fond memories of church during her childhood, including Sunday School and Vacation Bible School. Throughout her childhood and life, she especially enjoyed family gatherings with her cherished, extended Hotchkiss and Sterling families. Linda's friends, siblings, neighbors, and family were a large part of the wonderful childhood memories she carried from growing up in Brownstown. She could be found lifeguarding at the Brownstown Pool on nearly every summer day.
A 1977 graduate of Brownstown Central High School where she was a standout tennis player. Linda stayed close with many of her classmates throughout her life. She went on to attend Indiana University, earning both her Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Elementary Education. Her teaching career began in 1983 with Jennings County School Corporation, where she taught at Vernon Elementary and Hayden Elementary before finding her home at Brush Creek Elementary. There, she spent 29 years teaching second grade, where her passion for education and love for her students left a lasting impression on hundreds of young lives. Her colleagues at Brush Creek were more than coworkers—they were extended family, and among the most valued relationships in her life.
After retiring in 2017, Linda continued to serve her community through substitute teaching at Brush Creek and working as a seasonal testing coordinator at Jennings County High School. Teaching was not just her profession, but her calling.
Family and friends were always at the center of Linda's life. She had a close and loving bond with her grandchildren and could often be found supporting them at sporting events, musical events, and other activities and events. She was deeply proud of her daughter and grandchildren, speaking of them often and with great joy.
Linda found happiness in life's simple pleasures: playing cards with friends, bowling leagues, golf leagues, reading, napping in the sunshine by her pool, planting flowers, decorating for the holidays (especially Christmas), cheering for Indiana University basketball, a cold Diet Pepsi, and often trying her luck at the casino.
Linda was a remarkable dart player and this remained a true passion of hers for over 30 years. She approached the game with often unmatched competitiveness and skill, and quickly became a legend in the darting community. Linda traveled the country playing in competitive tournaments where she was often very successful. She was nationally known in this area and even earned a spot to compete internationally in England in 2005. Her darting friends and community served as an extension of her family as well.
Born on April 28, 1959, in Seymour, Linda was the daughter of William and Thelma J. (Hotchkiss) Sterling, both of whom preceded her in death.
She is survived by her daughter, Stephanie (Andrew) Ebbing of North Vernon; her sister, Barbara (Tim) Conner of Peru; her grandchildren, Emily, Allison, and Nicholas Ebbing; her niece, Lauren (Chris) Cain; her nephew, Clark (Jessica) Conner; and her great-nieces and nephews, Hudson, Harper, and Hunter Conner.
Linda was also preceded in death by one brother, Mark Sterling.
