Lloyd "Jum" Edgar Sterling

Lloyd "Jum" Edgar Sterling, age 92, of Brownstown, passed away on Saturday, March 19, 2022, at his home surrounded by his loving family.
Mr. Sterling was baptized at St. Peter's Lutheran Church, Brownstown, and he was a life-time member of the church.
Lloyd was a "hard-working" man, but he had a motto of "working smart, not hard". At a young age, he began hauling coal with his father. He then worked at Kieffer's Paper Mill in Brownstown and drove for Aero Mayflower for 36 years, retiring at age 64. Lloyd won the Mayflower's first Driver of the Year award in Special Transportation Systems in 1982.
Mr. Sterling had a great carpentry skill, and he loved making furniture from oak. Lloyd was known for his construction of furniture he made for St. Peter's Lutheran Church, which included the communion table, Bible stand, flower stands, and pedestals. He also made roll-top desks, china cabinets and custom bookcases for his family and friends.
Lloyd loved spending time with his family. He also had a passion for mowing grass and working puzzles. He played 15,280 games of free cell and logged 1,400 hours of playing time.
Born on June 10, 1929, in Brownstown, he was the son of Clifford and Tillie Niewedde Sterling, both of whom preceded him in death. On September 30, 1963, he married Dorothia Jeannette Robbins, and she survives in Brownstown.
Survivors also include: daughter, Stevy (Roger) Baker of Medora; daughter, Beth (Joe) Johnson of Medora; daughter, Kathy (Jim) Passereni of Brownstown; son, Keith "Bo" (Dana) Sterling of Brownstown; and daughter, Carol (Tim) Hayden of Brownstown; grandchildren: Dawn (Chris) Campbell, Nelson (Mary) Baker, Jimmy (Jen) Baker, Cody McVay-Ray, Cortney (Chris) Bowers, Jenna (Nick) Dunigan, Michael (Rachel) Passereni, Paige (Matt) Rotert, Clinton (Lindsey) Sterling, Sterling (Brittany) Hayden, and Stuart Hayden; 18 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; two sisters: Thelma Kiser and Catherine Sterling,
both of Brownstown; one sister-in-law, Marie Sterling; and one brother-in-law, Steve Zollman.
Lloyd was also preceded in death by brother, Robert Sterling, and sister-in-law, Jane Sterling; brother, George Sterling; brother, Nelson "Nick" Sterling, and sister-in-law, Karen Elaine Sterling; sister, Lottie Brown, and brother-in-law, Wally Brown; and sister, Nancy Zollman.
Funeral services for Lloyd Edgar Sterling will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, March 23, 2022, at St. Peter's Lutheran Church, Brownstown, with Pastor Jeremy Yeadon officiating. Friends may call from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, March 22, 2022, at Spurgeon Funeral Home, Inc., Brownstown, and from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, March 23, 2022, at St. Peter's Lutheran Church, Brownstown.
Interment will follow at Fairview Cemetery, Brownstown.
Memorials may be given to St. Peter's Lutheran Church, Brownstown, Capital Campaign Fund or donor's choice.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the caring staff at Spurgeon Funeral Home, Inc., Brownstown.
