Mark Alan Simmons, age 68, of Seymour, passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 16, 2026, at his home.

Mark dedicated many years of service in the IT department at the Jackson County Courthouse.

Family meant the world to Mark, and he was always there for those he loved. He had a deep appreciation for the outdoors and especially enjoyed hunting, fishing, and camping. In his quiet time, Mark also enjoyed watching movies and reading.

Born on January 9, 1958, in Seymour, Mark was the son of Joseph and (Beatrice) Stone Simmons, both of whom preceded him in death. On January 20, 2021, in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee, he married Linda Lou McElfresh, and she preceded him in death on August 24, 2023.

Survivors include two sons: Brandon Mark (Kourtney) Simmons of Seymour, and Matthew Jackson Graves (Jasmine Roberts) of Seymour; two grandchildren: Cole Simmons and Lorali Simmons; and one sister, Shannon Platter.

Mark was also preceded in death by an infant sister, Pam Simmons; and mother of Matthew, Janet Graves.

Funeral services for Mark Alan Simmons will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, August 19, 2026, at Spurgeon Funeral Home, Inc. Friends may call from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the service at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, August 19, 2026, at Spurgeon Funeral Home, Inc.

Interment will follow at Riverview Cemetery, Seymour.

Memorials may be given to Muscatatuck Wildlife Refuge or Donor’s Choice.
