Marlyn Lee Otte Jr., age 58, Jacksonville, Florida, died at 3:30 p.m. Sunday, May 18, 2014, at his residence. Born September 12, 1955, in Seymour, he was the son of Marlyn Lee Otte Sr. and Bonnie F. Hawn Otte. His father preceded him in death on Oct. 19, 1998. His mother survives in Seymour. Marlyn graduated from Brownstown Central High School. After graduation, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and was a seaman for six years. He then became one of the most creative florists and owned his own shop, The White Orchid. One of his many gifts to his siblings, nieces and nephews was his personalized floral designs for their weddings. In addition, he traveled as far as Las Vegas to showcase his designs at floral conventions. Later in life, he became a certified in-home care provider and provided care to others until his death. Survivors include two brothers, Jeffrey (Debbie) Otte Sr. and Roger (Mary) Otte; two sisters, Barbara (Bruce) Shelley and Janet Finet; nieces, Carrie Wach, Sarah Geis and Elizabeth Klein; and nephews, Jeffrey Otte Jr., Joseph Otte and David Otte. He was preceded in death by his father; one brother, David Otte; paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Otte; and maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Willie Hawn. A memorial service will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Saturday, June 14 at Spurgeon Funeral Home Inc., Brownstown, with Pastor Martin Keller officiating. Visitation will be 9 a.m. until time of service on Saturday, June 14 at the funeral home. Memorials may be given to the American Cancer Society or American Diabetes Association.
