Mary "Ellen" Shelton, age 94, of Brownstown, passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 4, 2025, at her home surrounded by her loving family.
Mrs. Shelton was a member of the First Pentecostal Church in Brownstown.
Ellen's role in life was being a devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Her family meant the world to her, and she deeply valued the time spent with them. She also had a passion for cooking and gardening.
Born on February 16, 1930, at her home in Moss, Tennessee, Ellen was the daughter of Aubrey and Ona Mae Carter, both of whom preceded her in death. On August 28, 1948, in Indianapolis, she married Robert Shelton, and he preceded her in death on August 2, 1994.
Survivors include two sons: Robert Shelton of Brownstown, and David (Belinda) Shelton of Brownstown; four daughters: Marie Klimczewski (Gary Sinks) of Vallonia, Robbi (Mike) Jaynes of Seymour, Brenda Wheeler of Brownstown, and Sheila (Ed) Bennett of Brownstown; one sister, Roslean Wilmoth; 15 grandchildren: Barbara (Lonnie) Vojkufka, Tammy (Brian) Temple, Robert (Nancy) Shelton, Jr., Linda (Ray) Libreros, Steven (Marlana) Shelton, Delbert Allman, Brandy (Jason) Drummond, Gavin Jaynes, Tommy (Amy) Wheeler, Tina Zabel, Courtney (Todd) Conn, Kelly Shelton, Brooklyn Lockman, Makenzie Bennett, and Madison Bennett; and 30 great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Shelton was also preceded in death by one daughter, Carolyn (Fred) Dick; one grandson, Dannie Cornett; two great-grandsons: Jeremy Cornett, and Hudson Conn; three brothers: Jim, Dallas, and Willard; three sisters: Donnie, Nola, and Nova; and son-in-law, Dennis Chapman.
Funeral services for Mary "Ellen" Shelton will be conducted at 12:00 noon on Friday, January 10, 2025, at Spurgeon Funeral Home, Inc., Brownstown, with Ron Cox officiating. Friends may call from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 9, 2025, at Spurgeon Funeral Home, Inc., Brownstown, and from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the service at 12:00 noon on Friday, January 10, 2025, at Spurgeon Funeral Home, Inc.
Interment will follow at Fairview Cemetery, Brownstown.
Memorials may be given to the First Pentecostal Church in Brownstown.
