Mary Estelle Winston, age 89, of Freetown, passed away peacefully on Friday, December 27, 2024, at Hoosier Christian Village, Brownstown.
Mrs. Winston had a zest for life, which was evident in everything she did, from her early days as a spirited young girl living in Jackson County to her fulfilling years as a devoted mother living in Indianapolis and as a grandmother, while living back in Jackson County. Mary's love for her family was boundless, and the time spent with her loved ones was filled with laughter, joy, and countless cherished memories. Christmas was her favorite time of year and she made the holiday unforgettable with her generosity, every year.
Professionally, Mary was known for her talent as a skilled beautician at the Fountain Bleu Beauty Salon in the Broad Ripple area of Indianapolis. Mary's passion for beauty and creativity extended beyond her salon work, as she ventured into the world of antiques. As the dedicated owner of Davidson Antiques for over three decades, she became a respected figure in the antique community. Her eye for unique treasures and her talent for restoring old furniture brought new life to countless pieces, much to the delight of antique lovers and collectors.
Additionally, Mary had artistic talents not confined to her work, as she was an avid painter and craft enthusiast. Her hobbies were a testament to her belief in preserving the beauty of the past while adding her own touch of creativity.
Born on August 28, 1935, in Jackson County, Mary was the daughter of Frank and Opal (Soladine) Davidson, both of whom preceded her in death. In 1956, in Niles, Michigan, she married Richard S. Winston, and he preceded her in death on August 28, 1994. Mary also had a twenty-year relationship with Roger Miller of Brownstown, until his death in 2008.
Survivors include two sons: Richard S. (Mildred) Winston, III, of Gilbert, Arizona, and Tracy L. (Lora) Winston of Brownstown; two daughters: Robin Lee (Dan) Lovelace of Plainfield, and Abrena Winston of Gilbert, Arizona; ten grandchildren: Crystal (Steve) Yockey, Jeffrey (Sara) Lovelace, Tiea (Anthony) Dancler, Terra Winston, Lauren Winston-McPherson (Melissa Robles), Gabrielle Winston-McPherson, Brittany Winston, Elijah Winston, Richard (Savannah) Winston, IV, and Carlie Winston; nine great-grandchildren; and one brother, Ron Lee (Donna) Davidson of Coatesville.
Funeral services for Mary Estelle Winston will be conducted at 12:00 noon on Thursday, January 2, 2025, at Spurgeon Funeral Home, Inc., Brownstown, with Pastor Mitchell McIntyre officiating. Friends may call from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service at 12:00 noon on Thursday, January 2, 2025, at Spurgeon Funeral Home, Inc.
Interment will follow at Smallwood Cemetery.
