Maurice "David" Rouse, age 74, of Seymour, passed away peacefully on Monday, December 15, 2025, at Hospice Center, Columbus with his loved ones by his side.
David was a devoted, long-time member of Mt. Nebo Church, and most recently faithfully attended Spraytown Free Methodist Church with his family.
David worked for several years at Cooper Small Engines, George's of Seymour, and Rose Acre Farms before later joining Cummins Engine Co., where he retired in 1982. Throughout his career, he also owned and operated a small engine shop, a pursuit he was passionate about and truly loved.
Family was of the utmost importance to David and his greatest pride and joy. He deeply loved his family and cherished every moment spent with them. He taught his children and grandchildren that anything is possible if you set your mind to it, and he instilled in them the importance of loving fully and never letting a day pass without telling those you love how much they mean to you.
David also had a passion for the outdoors and greatly enjoyed hunting and fishing. In addition, he loved spending time solving word search puzzles.
Born on February 2, 1951, in Columbus, David was the son of Henry and Elma (Tedder) Rouse, both of preceded him in death. On August 17, 1974, at Mt. Nebo Church, he married Debbie Pilman, and she survives in Seymour.
Survivors also include one son, David James "D.J." (Rachel) Rouse of Seymour; one daughter, Donna Lynn Garvey of Seymour; five grandchildren: Darrian Steven Garvey, Jonathon Ford Garvey, Peyton Benjamin Garvey, Henry James Rouse, and Connor Hayes Rouse; two sisters: Margrett Moussa of Houston, Texas, and Marcella Hopkins of Somerset, Kentucky; two brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: Jerry (Sharon) Pilman of Cordova, South Carolina, Kevin (Kim) Pilman of Atlanta, Georgia, and Theresa Rouse of Freetown; two uncles: Herman Seaborne, and Roy Lee Tedder; two aunts: Janet Tedder, and Shery Shively; and several nieces and nephews.
David was also preceded in death by one son, Darrell Henry Rouse; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Delbert and Mae Pilman; son-in-law, Steve Garvey; five brothers: Michael Rouse, Kenneth Rouse, Marvin Rouse, Dean Rouse, and Melvin (Marty) Rouse; several aunts and uncles; one nephew, Tim Rouse; two great-nephews: Levi Miller, and Xander Wittbrod Rouse; one brother-in-law, Larry Joe Pilman; and cousins, Larry Krebbs and Robbie Krebbs.
Funeral services for Maurice "David" Rouse will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, December 18, 2025, at Spurgeon Funeral Home, Inc., Brownstown, with Pastor Jerry Van Kuiken officiating. Friends may call from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, December 17, 2025, at Spurgeon Funeral Home, Inc., and from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, December 18, 2025, at Spurgeon Funeral Home, Inc.
Interment will follow at Freetown Cemetery.
Memorials may be given to Spraytown Free Methodist Church.
